Nursing Students Student Assist

Hi everyone,

I need some advice. I will take med/surg (theory) started next week and i am a little anxious about it. Mostly because i heard so many things about the course. I've been to med/surg unit during my assessment course, but i know definitely it is not the same thing. I am normally a good student, however i really need to hear from people who had already experienced the course. I need you guys to advise me on what i will need beside the required books for the class and other materials.

Thanks

click on the link and the bottom of this post, the critical thinking flow sheet for nursing students, and print it out. use this to help you learn all the elements you need to know about each medical disease/condition you will be studying in your course. surgery is a treatment by physicians for a medical condition.

I'm in the same boat. I just started my med/surg class yesterday. I've heard out of 120 students, 18 passed 1 semester. Well after that semester, they made the teacher leave....4 years later, she's back and I get her. A big part of me thinks that a lot of ppl who barely got by 1st semester are the ones who don't make it through med/surg. And the big other part thinks it's just rumors or ppl who love complaining, which I don't listen to.

One thing that I have learned is to never listen to the gossip that others have to say. Most of the time its because they personally had some trouble and are justifying it. Next, those teachers are never just going to throw you into something and expect u to know everything. They will tell you exactly what they expect from you and you can go from there and decide what things you need to work on. Also, your syllabus should outline what is expected. One good thing to have if your instructor will allow you is a recorder. Record all the theorys so you dont miss anything, most instructors will let you. Good Luck!

My first med surg class I did fine in I got an A. The 2nd and 3rd well that was a different story. I took both of them at the same time. I passed both of them but I had to work for it hard and I mean really hard. I bought Get straight A's in Med Surg and yeah that was a waste. It was not detailed enough. I started to really study out of my NCLEX book and still was barely passing. So I said forget it and started to study out of the huge backbreaker med surg book and my grades came up instantly.

I know everyone is different but my advise is to study from your med surg book and supplement with the other study aids and lecture notes. I did great on both my finals. I just stayed in over the weekends before the test and read out of the med surg book. I know the text books can be boring but the professors make us read them for a reason.
