I would talk to the admissions adviser at a couple schools both at the ADN and BSN level. Without knowing what your challenges are at your current school I can't give you more specific feedback.

I would not give up if this is truly your dream. 2 stepping your way to your BSN is not breaking your promise to your mother. (IOW ADN then complete BSN)

Although I think it's sweet that you want to honor your promise to your mother, maybe nursing isn't for you and you should take a little time off school to see if it's your true passion.

I'm a mom and I understand that sometimes my kids really want to do things to make me happy...but I also know that I'm happiest when they are true to themselves.

Complete your degree in whatever manner you can and don't take a break from school! Ok that was my advice :) Good luck whatever you decide :)

I have no idea what you are taking in your curriculum at present but my gut feeling is if you are going to take a break of any real length (not just a semester or so)then you should consider redoing the whole shebang except for the pre-reqs. Nursing skills and concepts don't become inborn during school, it takes practice in the profession. Just like I couldn't go from my current field to OB with serious review and reading, I find it unlikely you could successfully return to study without repeating key foundational courses (such as clinicals, pathophys, pharmocology, etc). I think you would be doing yourself a disservice to not repeat things. Just my two cents, maybe you retain better than me. hope you find what makes you happy and sorry for your loss, no matter how many years its been.

I would recommend taking time away to yourself and maybe working a while to get a better idea of what you'd like to do. I'm not having a mid-life crisis, but I did recently finish my prereqs (except for Organic Chem) and was accepted to an excellent BSN program. Due to a major turn of life events over the past few months I decided to take some time off from school this past quarter to really think long and hard about if I feel like embarking upon the journey into nursing right now. I have to admit that it feels good to just work and come home and truly enjoy my free time. Being away from school and having the time to pursue other interests for the first time since 2008 has been really rejuvenating for me.

You should really pursue BSN. We all know it gets so tough sometimes but each time we care about our clients, it all feels better. Hope you also feel that way. You should not just give up nursing just because you are confused. This is a really not an easy field but you should not surrender. finish what you've started :))

its up to you to decide waht you really want, if you think that pursuing nursing is good for you then go for it, but if not, then stop.. yes, you promise to your mother that you will be in the field of nursing, but i think if your mother is still alive, she will understand you, because she knows that atleast you do your best to fullfil what you have promised,, but if the time comes that you are ready to face bsn again, then go for it.....

its either yoy can have your work for a while while you are studying to a another nursing school and in order for you to finish the degree...the only problem is that how you manage your time wisely...

Be careful. Many ADN schools will be much more competitive to get into. Many have an expiration date on prerequisites and entrance testing. You don't have an automatic acceptance just due to the fact you were accepted/completed part of another program, BSN or not.

Check into this!!!! Call and speak with an advisor of the CC you are thinking of. You don't want to find that you've thrown away all you've done to get this far.

Sometimes just finding out that there are few options, and that you must press on, can be the best thing for you in the end.
