Im so worried! I took my hesi today and my over all grade is 88! I study for anatomy for almost a month and i only got 76. I passed it by a point. this is annoying! but my math and reading was high which pulled me up to a 88. i think 88 in not enough to guarante my acceptance also my gpa! my prereq gpa is 3.8 and my cumulative gpa 3.6. Im applying for the generic program. Im really nervous!Anyone from the program already knows if my grades are enough in order to get into the program? It is killing me! anyone else applied??
Thank you ahreeol for being so helpful!
I'm so excited! and ofcourse nervous. I'm still waiting for my micro grade but i know i wont get anything less than an A-
So my science gpa will be either a 3.61 or a 3.67 ... I hope that's good enough. The suspense of waiting for the letters is nerve wracking! Good Luck Everyone !
Glowinthdark,
If I were you, I wouldn't go away "too far" in case the information you received was not accurate. I have only been in Lehman for one year, but the amount of information discrepancy I've gotten from many different individuals in the nursing department is astounding!
If you were forced to come back early, you want to be mentally prepared and make sure that the trip won't be chaotic. That's just how I feel.
Building on Glowinthdark's question... I'm also wondering if students in the accelerated programs have any time for other stuff like... volunteer for 4 hours per weekend.
I know 4 hours per weekend sounds very little, but maybe the workload from the accelerated program is so much that even 4 hours can't be spared?
I understand that internships are completely out of question. But if classes and clinical are only taking places on weekdays, then perhaps I can volunteer at a hospital only 4 hours per weekend just to increase my chances of getting a job after graduation?
Anyone have any idea? Much appreciated.
Me too, im also worried about the application too. They told me if they didnt call me back that means the application is okay. I check both generic and accelerated program too. I hope they dont just put me in the generic program just because i circle both. Is there anyone i can call to check the application?
For starvingrtist, maybe you can start volunteering now before school starts and you can continue to volunteer if you feel its not too much during the semester.
Yatty,
the application is designed so that you can apply to both accelerated and generic program. If you chose both options then you did the right thing. I remember a caption somewhere that says "if you don't get into the accelerated program, would you like to be considered for the generic program". So that's a nice touch on their part.
As for the volunteering program, I am applying currently. If the workload becomes too hectic then I can just quit. At least I can get a month or two in before I have to make that decision.
Glowinthdark,
Sadly, that's the disadvantage of being in the accelerated program. The coursework + clinicals is VERY time consuming. So, many people post grad find it really hard to get a job without a "foot" in- not just in lehman but in nearly every accelerated program in ny. Having connections helps but unfortunately not many people do. In regards to leaving for the summer, try to speak to everyone and anyone you can. You want to be 100% sure you can leave and come back. Even if this means speaking to the chairperson directly.. and i recommend you do this real quick because after a certain day everyone stops showing up or they start showing up whenever.
nursing2017,
Aw, i remember being nervous that i "might" not get in but you just have to be confident that you will. Your grades are above the usual cutoff rate so you should have no problems.
StarvingRtist,
Your words cannot be "realer." It's not lehman if you don't get F****'d over at least once or twice, lol. You'll hate it and you'll love it.
Also, since i'm in the generic program and not in the accelerated it's hard to say if you can actually volunteer. I doubt it though. Even as a generic you're pretty much risking it by volunteering or having a job. Nursing is hard. Getting in is actually the "easiest" part, staying in is the hardest.
Just so you guys know, volunteering is cool and all but hospitals usually tend to have specific programs for nursing students. These are the programs you guys want to volunteer/intern at. They're the ones that allow you to build the "right" connections. Montefiore has one for nursing students who have completed their first year of nursing school. It's an 8-week summer paid program (i think they pay 20-23/hr) that follows a normal nursing schedule 12hrs/3days a week. This is just one of many programs you guys can apply to down the road.
Hi all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I've created a Facebook page for the Lehman College nursing students. The official nursing department's FB page and the Nursing Students Association FB page have not be updated in YEARS. Doesn't seem like anyone takes care of them at all.
I'm hoping many of us will share information and discuss things related to nursing or about our courses at Lehman. Since most of us are very busy, I'm sure a FB page is much more convenient to get involved with than in person.
You can find the page by searching for "Lehman College Nursing" in the FB search section. You will also see the subtitle of "Closed Group within CUNY SPS". I look forward to add more people and start meaningful discussions!
Ahreeol Thanks for being so helpful. omg waiting for the letters are really nerve wracking
Nursing2017 i hope we get in!!!
yatty im also nervous about my application. I feel like there might be something wrong. I mightcall them on tuesday to make sure everything is alright and that they got my transcript from my other school. I am really nervous!!!
Ohh yeah, I've been going to CUNY schools on and off since 2008 so I've unfortunately had plenty of experience with their incompetent administrators and advisors. Can't tell you how many times they have not just seriously inconvenienced me, but actually delayed me in getting my undergrad degree, cost me hundreds or even thousands of dollars because they've given me the wrong info multiple times, etc. etc. Guess I'll just go there tomorrow and hope there are advisors available to see me.
What's the story with the physical and CPR cert? Do those have to be completed before you can register or just some time before orientation in August? Can registration be completed the same day you pick up your welcome packet?
Does anyone know if even the generic students have success finding jobs in NYC after graduation? From what I've read on here, it's basically impossible to stay in New York.
Hi everyone,
I am also biting my nails worrying about whether or not I'm going to make the cut for the program this fall! Here's my application, by the numbers:
HESI: 90
--Math: 92
--Reading Comp: 90
--A&P: 88
--Critical Thinking: 860
Prereq GPA: Projected at 3.65, still waiting for my microbio grade, but I think it's an A.
Overall GPA: relatively low, about 2.8- product of stopping and starting for many years, and taking courses I hated and subsequently dropped.
I was also able to submit a pretty shining recommendation letter from one of my A&P professors.
I heard about people being allowed to take the HESI over, but I didn't know why. Considering that they allowed people to take it over because the application rate was low, maybe that means a better chance of getting in (?). We can only hope so, I guess. But I agree with a lot of you, that those of us that passed with good scores the first time around should get some cool points for that. I really want to get into this program because it's the only one I applied for! Other programs, like New Rochelle, etc., had other prereqs that I didn't have, nor did I have the time to take before applying. So all my eggs are in this basket. I hope my scores are enough.

Thank you for your answer, ahreeol. What about the students in the accelerated program who can't intern in the summer bc they're taking classes? Would you say that they have a lower rate of employment post-graduation?
I'm going to call the nursing dept again today about leaving for the summer.. the advisor was like, "Go! Have a great time!" Lol and I stood in line for an hour and fifteen minutes to talk to her so I'm kind of annoyed.
