Im so worried! I took my hesi today and my over all grade is 88! I study for anatomy for almost a month and i only got 76. I passed it by a point. this is annoying! but my math and reading was high which pulled me up to a 88. i think 88 in not enough to guarante my acceptance also my gpa! my prereq gpa is 3.8 and my cumulative gpa 3.6. Im applying for the generic program. Im really nervous!Anyone from the program already knows if my grades are enough in order to get into the program? It is killing me! anyone else applied??

They did have that rule though. You are only supposed to take the hesi once a year but since the passing rate was so low they opened up another day for those who failed and wished to take it over.

That's still not fair to us. They should consider our applications first since we took it the first time and passed. But either way, if you didn't pass the first time, I doubt you're going to pass the second time since the exam is harder.

We will see tho. Hopefully that doesn't affect us.

The retake opportunity isn't something new for this year alone. It was allowed last year too. Some people do freeze up during the exam and fail it, not because they lack the knowledge but because their nerves take over. Taking it again is fair to a large extent. Had you fail wouldn't you want the chance to retake it rather than wait one WHOLE year for the opportunity? In the end, GPA is what really gets you in- not so much the HESI. You can have a 99% hesi score and a 3.0 prereq GPA and still be rejected in a heartbeat.

I agree. The people from Lehman's nursing department and even the woman who administers the exam every year told me that the HESI is either pass or fail. Its only to get you in the door. All they care about is your GPA.

Just out of pure curiousity, can you briefly explain how registration to nursing classes work? How does it work after you get the acceptance letter

When you get the acceptance letter you'll be given a date so that you can come in and pick up your admission package. On that day you'll be given info outlining the courses you need to take your first semester. You get to pick your classes (by getting permission for them) the same day you pick up your package. The earlier you go the greater the chances of you getting the schedule you want. More than likely you'll have class/clinicals 4-5x a week your first semester. Also, after the first semester you don't have a say in any of the classes you pick- sadly everything will be picked out for you.

@ahreeol do you know the cut off gpa when you got accepted from the program?

Hi, I am waiting to hear whether I got into the accelerated program for Fall 2015. I spoke to a nursing advisor who told me that it'd be no problem for me to leave New York for the summer.. That I wouldn't need to come to Lehman until mid-August. Did the advisor misinform me? Because it sounds like the orientation packet needs to be picked up in person..

I was wondering too if anyone has any info on Lehman nursing's gainful employment stats? The advisor told me that 90% of grads get jobs, but I've heard so much about the difficulty of finding nursing jobs in NYC and in general that I can't help but reeeeally question that percentage.

Hello, I have retake the hesi exam in april and i got 84 on a&p, 88 on english, 100 on math since i failed the first one in january. In my old college i only have a 2.8 gpa. I have took 4 pre-req since i was a chemistry major. I got A for A&P 1 and 2 and micro bio. I am taking the Hin 268 right now. I will probably get an A-. Is that high enough to get into the accelerated nursing program?

Jen,

The cutoff tends to usually be 3.5. In the event that they don't have enough seats filled they may pick those with a 3.4 science gpa (I know of only one person this happened to- she was admitted late).

Glowinthdark,

Its hard to say if this is true since the person who handled all our issues dealing with registration/orientation retired earlier this year. So they have someone else in charge now (if im not mistaking). However, i would speak to a second counselor. August seems pretty late to register for classes. The only thing we had in august was our orientation. Also prior to getting in you have to do a lot of paperwork and stuff. If you're not CPR certified by the american heart association then you need to do that too. Travelings possible but traveling for a really long time isn't possible to do this summer. Also, where did she see these stats? lol. From what i hear the school doesn't help you find a job after you graduate at all. However, they do try to encourage you to do summer internships while in the program. The point of this is to basically network yourself so that you can maybe get a job where you interned at after you graduate.

Yatty, when I spoke to the nursing director, she told me that if your pre-req GPA is 4.0 and you do fairly well on HESI then you are pretty much guaranteed in. They don't care about GPA from your previous school. I hope it's true since my GPA for pre-req is 4.0 and got 92 on HESI. My previous school's GPA was 2.6, thank god they don't care about that...

I would worry more about the application itself. No one seemed to care to help out with that part, we are in the dark on whether our applications are okay or not...

I also want to point out that someone said the cut off for accelerated program was 3.8; that is not true (at least according to the director). She told me that it's different from year to year since they pick the top 20 candidates. One or two years ago the lowest GPA accepted into accelerated program was 3.83, and the year before that was 3.9-ish. So it really depends on the candidate pool.

So basically your GPA for pre-req and HESI get you in, assuming that your application is complete without flaw. I am worried about my application the most...

Your information seems to be spot on. If you did the application accurately and handed it to them then you should be fine. It helps to make a copy of everything you have- just in case. A 4.0 gpa and a 92 on the hesi does basically guarantee you a spot. Good luck.
