Help; first interview ever for PEDS tommorow,sort of blew the phone conversation

Wow, sounds like my interview this morning for a peds position with cross train and float to post partum, 3 12's nights and day orientation. I didn't verbalize anything when asked the same question you were asked about being cross trained, but my face must have shown it. I honestly think they know this is a daunting thing to ask a candidate during an interview and probably get similar answers. I would have said the same thing as you did and we don't think about how we sound or respond until later! I'd consider it something they most likely won't even remember you saying and forge ahead. To be honest, I am quite fearful and not feeling super about this job offer. I did fine in ped's rotation for clinical but.. officially caring for babies on up in pediatric ICU scares me, and the thought of the parents scare me even more!

You wouldn't have gotten the interview if you had "blown" it... relax, you didn't. What can they expect to just drop such a proposal (cross-training that you never expected) on you? But the recruiter told you so you have an opportunity to think about it and discuss it further during the interview.

You say you are interested in various areas of nursing... so how can you know that you wouldn't enjoy postpartum? And if it turns out that you really don't "feel passionate" about it, well, maybe it's just not meant to be.

I'm getting ready right now,yesterday I bought a pair of gray slack pants,black middle heel really cute black shoes,and a dark purple turtleneck with short sleeves,I also bough a folder and a black case,I went to the saloon and did my nail (just shaped them nicely and put clear polish), I decided to put my hair up and back with a headband and a light make up (purple eyeshadow,black mascara..lipgloss)...yesterday I was going in mind over the potential questions they can ask me...you know like the standard interview question;how you see yourself in 5 years or 10 years,why did you choose peds specialty,what are your areas of strenght and area of weakness,how would you handle a difficult pt...I also made a mental list in my mind of the question I want to ask them...well I will let you know how it went,thanks for your kind wishes everyone!!!!!!!!

ahhhhhhhhh,I just came back from the interview and the person who interviewed me totally blown my mind away with an unexpected interview questions thrown at me unmercfully from the gates of hell and I went totally blank and made a total ass out of myself..the interviewer wasnt happy with me in the first place.....We got off on a wrong foot since the beggining of the hiring process...rewinding back to our first phone conversation she told me it didnt look like Peds was my passion,"gee I'm a duckling to the world of nursing and I still need guidance and time to discover where my true passion lies...I know things I wouldnt want to do...units that I dont care for at all..but other than that I like both kids and adults...uncommon,maybe but these are my true preferences..so holly cow where do they get these questions from anyway...I was for something totally different...I definitely didnt expected to share tons of clinical experiences they I had during nursing school...anyway I dont feel great at all about this interview,they say they will make decision in one week...it is great opportunity (there are two opening one for Labor and delivery with the rotation to mother and baby or peds position with rotating to mother and baby,they asked me which one I prefer I said it doesnt matter I will take what they give me:loveya:but deep in my heart I was screaming labor and delivery but was shy to say it aloud:clown: but I wont mind peds too so it is all good.Anyway I would love to get either position as I love the schedule 3 12s night differentials,every other weekend off and great benefits,I think I will pray but deep in my heart I know they wont call me back and I dont blame them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
