Help, failed first exam in Med-Surg

We have 3 unit exams each 33% and 1 final which is 50%. My first exam in med-surg was 52 on MS. Everyone says the second exam is harder since it deals with Neuro. I'm very nervous. Is it possible to recover from a 52% in Med-Surg on your first exam? We need a 75 to pass the course. Our instructor makes her own exams by the way and she does not use any test banks. What you think is important was not on the exam.. Is there any hope for me? I studied my butt off. :(

You can definitely recover! Don't waste your time looking for roundabouts like test banks. Although practice questions will help you! You might try putting together a study group and go over what you are learning in class, what you are reading, try making connections with the material together.

My advice is to sign up for Uworld 2 year subscription. You can create custom practice exams on content and you can use it to prep for NCLEX. UWorld is a must-have tool for any nursing student.

33.3%. That's what we were told....

Were you told in a syllabus? That is indeed, odd math........

I failed my first exam in med-surg and it was a shock to me. I went and saw our skills and study resource person and they were shocked I failed too- I was already doing everything they recommended. My issue ended up being my instructors teaching style- the more I ignored them and just taught myself the better I did. My grades went up with each exam and by the end of the course I was one of the few students in my class with an A. I even scored a 99.99% on the HESI for the course.

I read the book, took my own notes, used Med Surg Success to practice questions, and found videos on YouTube to explain topics that I was still confused out. Good luck!
