If at all possible go directly to their offices. If you can't, keep calling until you get someone live on the phone (I always found morning the best time). I had a hard time contacting my health care recruiters when I first started as well and eventually had to just stalk their office. They get pretty busy with current applicants and preparing their packets that I'm sure that they just don't get to all the calls for general information. I wouldn't rely on them to return their call; just keep calling throughout the day, someone will pick up eventually if they're in the office! :)

It would be helpful to know what branch of service you are seeking.
Health care recruiters serve larger geographical areas - local (standard) recruiters are not able to help in direct commission of medical / health officers.

Give us some more info on what you want.
hi just_cause and nurse2033,
i am looking into army and navy nurse corps. i would like to speak with both branches and see what happens from there. i am a little partial to navy, but only because i have had 2 uncles that are navy veterans (and of course "that’s the best," according to them). i do want some more info about the army though, because if i get in and decide to go career, then it would be nice to be able to work at fort carson at some point. some info about me-i am going to graduate with a bsn in june and wanted to get the application process started. i know that it takes a long time and that right now it isn't as easy to get a spot due to the economy, but i really want to go into military nursing. i expect that i will try and find a job after i graduate and get some experience until my application is processed, but at this point i'm not even sure of what kind of timeline to expect. also, i went to the army office in my city and they were trying to get me to enlist as a medic or something. heck no, i did not go through my bsn to be a medic!
thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated!

Good luck!! :) Ft. Carson was my top choice, but unfortunately wasn't available for me right now. Oh well, maybe someday.
.... as opposed to the nurses that don't want to work at Ft Carson....
(everyone would like to go there...)
Really? How come? Fort Carson is the only base in CO, so that's why I said that because I'm from CO, and would like to live close to my family at some point if I join the military.
you can look at the 7 primary medical centers in the army, these have a high density of nurses.. other locations have less billets available. As a new nurse you will be a medcenter (not a carson).
Carson is a prime army location, and across all jobs it is one of those posts that is sought after. Not a lot of opportunities to be a nurse in comparison to other locations.
If you want to be there for a period you might look at working there as a civilian nurse... otherwise you have far less control over your whereabouts.

The Air Force has 3 bases in Colorao Springs and one in Denver if serving near family is important to you. The recruiters are all in the Denver area (Aurora, I think). Have you considered the Air Force nurse corps? The Air Force pertners with the Army a lot now and we serve together during deployments. It has been a great 20 years for me.
Well now...that would be "partners" with the Army!
HI af20rn,
I did consider the AF but I was told that they have to many RN's? But I will look into it. Thanks
