Hello,
I just applied for the nursing program at Kent State University. I will find out soon if i got in. I have all A's and 1 B (Anatomy and phys). I was wandering ifi get it how clinicals will be. Our university lets us choose between Cleveland clinic and some other locals hospitals. We rotate between floors so a few weeks or so. However I was just wandering what the students do during their clinicals. Each floor has a group of about 8 nursing students.
Could anyone just share what their clinical experience was like and what is expected of the nursing students?
Thanks for your time

Well every school is different, but I will give you an idea as to what I did in my clinicals thus far....As I already stated, each school is different, as are hospitals and INSTRUCTORS.....For Fundamentals we mainly just gave bed baths, helped pts with ADL's, ROM, and passed oral meds. If procedures were available that we had already checked off on then we were allowed to do them, such as Foley's, discontinuing IV's, and dressing changes. My for Med surg 1-2 we passed meds both oral and IV, NG discontinuation, hung IV piggy backs, central line changes and insertion(needle replacements), enemas, stoma care, tube feedings, and I am sure there is much more, but its just not coming to me right now....Then in medsurg 3-4 we started IV's, assessed chest tubes, cleaned tracheostomy tubes and suctioned, EKG's, Cervical collar applications, and we hung blood for transfusions. Plus everything else.......
Now as for next semester which is my final semester in nursing school I have no clue what we will be doing for peds and maternity....all i can say is may 2009 can't come soon enough.....GOOD LUCK too you, and work hard....Its all so worth it....
