Help! best places to live

U.S.A. Maryland

Alright, i was in baltimore and it's not like philly so i can't tell which place is a good area. I've heard of several areas: charles village, federal Hill, midtown, Mt Vernon, canton, Parkville, i'm also looking at a property at ednor gardens.

It's very confusing. Yes i live in philly which is high crime but i live dowtown which is very safe so i'm a little oblivious to the crime in this city since they do a good job keeping it out of center city. Anyway, i've heard horror stories about baltimore. People tell me that it's worse than the worse parts of philly.

I'm trying to decide on where to live. I'm a city girl, but i can live i the burbs as well. No, i do not like sketchy areas. You're likely to find me walking outside at 1am in philly and so i need somewhere safe. Oh, i don't think i'll be walking around at 1am in baltimore but i still need a safe neighborhood.

Anyway, which area would you guys suggest is good for me to live? which places are safe? i don't want a place where everyone in the neighborhood has been mugged or had their house broken into. If you need my stats to fit me somwhere, I'm a new grad, single, female, no kids, not pets. I don't want an isolated area; i like a place with movie theaters and stuff to do. i really need to make a decision fast. I saw one place in Ednor gardens i think i like, does anyone have info on the area?

For those of you who live in baltimore or the surrounding burbs, or if you've ever lived there, please share your opinions, good or bad, i'd love to hear them.

thx

Federal Hill is a nice area, however if you are worried about the cost of car insurance, you will pay lots more living in the city rather than the county. I have lived in both and my insurance almost doubled when I moved to the city.

I really can't tell you about car vandals, but I used to work in Owings Mills. My car was never vandalized. You don't want to be off Reisterstown Rd, you want to be closer to the mall like the above poster said on Lakeside Blvd.

I think the only way you're going to make up your mind is just come and look around and see what's appealing to you.

Get a 6 month lease rather than a year so in case you're not happy you don't have a long obligation. Any apartment community is going to be loud (it has to be with so many people living in the same area), unless you move into a senior living area..lol.

Once you live here for a while, talk to some people, and get a feel for the area, you will decide where you want to be permanently. Honestly, it's not a bad place.

I've never had anyone do anything to my car,or my husbands. The apts on Lakeside Blvd are far enough off of Reisterstown Rd to be ok, like the above poster said. I'd be more worried about something happening to my car parking on the street in the city than out in the burbs.

Check out the newer apts called Brookeside Commons on Lakeside. Anything from that little strip mall back towards the New Town Giant are the apts you'd want to be in on Lakeside. We did a 6 month lease with Cascade Overlook while we waited for our house to be built, it was fine, the place was big, but we looked onto other apts and the view of brick got old.

so much for worrying bout my car. it got vandalized a day before i moved to baltimore, i guess it's my last memory of philly. I settled on the downtown area near mt vernon and i like it so far especially when my car needs to be fixed before i can drive it again. i'm able to walk to work so that works.

thanks to all of you for the suggestions. baltimore isn't as bad as i thought it was. Actually, it's OK, if you factor out those who roll their windows down to curse at you if you're making a wrong turn on the road when your car tag clearly indicates you're from out of state.

All right guys I have a job :yeah:JHH isn't happy about being known as the lowest paid hospital and it worked in my favor for I was able to negotiate my starting salary my experiance also helped.

So I need to find a place that is safe and that is not too exprensive and not to far from the hospital for I don't have a car as of yet.

Oh and here is when my head hurts I need to move in three weeks:banghead::banghead:

any help will be welcomed

thanks

Actually JHH just raised all of their salaries in June (I work for them). They are very competitive now salary-wise.:D

I know so when I mentioned that they are know for being the lowest paid as I was told at mercy. They didn't like that But I found their base to be pretty reasonable so I can't complain but like you said they did just raise all of their salaries. But right now my biggest concern is finding a place to stay

Good for you! It always seemed to me that Hopkins felt like their good name was enough, lol. Welcome to the area and if you read back through this thread there are lots of good suggestions on neighborhoods. Welcome.

So I have read through the post and came up with some Ideas and I realized I need to stay in Baltimore for I don't have a car and it is not something I plan on aquiring in the near future ... Did anyone look in to 222 saratoga I wanted to know how that apt complex was. I have set up appt with Zenith which is 15 minutes away from JHH and Symphony in My.vernon any insight into these apt complexes would great for I need to pack up my stuff and be in Bmore in 3 weeks ugh how stressful ...

Oh and I am going to be exhausted for I only have 2 days to look and I am working 60hr a week up until the week I move so that I can make some $$$ :banghead: to move

Those places sound familiar but I can't say for sure. In general, I would say Mt. Vernon would a good fit, since you don't want a car. You can catch the JHH bus at Penn Station for free.

Actually, Federal Hill might be good also.

So I found a place 511 west Pratt . I love to be in the bussle and hussle of things. I mean I lived near Fenway park in Boston so living near the orioles wont be something new. I am so relieved 2 days and 900 miles later I am finally going to be a resident of MD

congratulations :yeah:

You will be right down from the Hippodrome. If you're a theatre buff, make sure you check out a few shows. It's a beautiful theatre.
