Hello!
I just would like to ask our kababayans now working in Australia about the procedures on working there as a nurse. I have read some sites about these but i would like to hear from your personal experiences ( what are the first steps, requirements, how much money involved, etc...).
Thanks in advance!

Please go to the Australian Forum here and review the links that are posted there for contact information. It is not any different for those from the Philippines vs those from other countries to get a license there. That will be your first step before anything else can be done.

Hi! i'm a filipino nurse and also hoping to work in australia in june, i'm just waiting for my visa and registration to come through. The first step is you need to register to the board of nursing in the state where you intended to work, you can download the application form from their website. If you are planning to apply as an immigrant your skills needs to assess by the assessing body which is the ANMC. As far as i know, if your current nursing registration is from the philippines you need to undergo a bridging course before you get qualified as a registered nurse in australia and that would cost you about 6000 australian dollars. For more info you can visit the philippine australian forum. I cant remember the exact website but if you type the philippine australian forum in your search tab it would come up and you can even register there and ask questions. I hope this help.
Thanks a lot, Cay05! Ill just try to do a search on that topic. Goodluck to you!!! & Congratulations!

Hi there! I saw your post and would like to ask how long will the processing of papers takes?
Hi! I applied for working visa long stay category, processing would take 4-6 months that includes getting a sponsor, obtaining nursing registration and visa processing.

Hi. I would just like to know if it really is a requirement for filipino registered nurses to undergo a bridging course? You see, my boyfriend is a nurse in the Philippines. He's been working as a registered nurse there for over 2 years now. I just recently moved to Vicotria, Australia. He is thinking of moving here too. Recently, he applied for registration at the Nursing Board of Victoria(NBV). And we also found an agency who can help sponsor him going here..so we're just waiting for the NBV registration. Ive been going over the website of NBV, and I dont see anything about a bridging course. I also asked my friend in Canberra(who knows a filipino nurse who migrated from the Phils last december) if he had to undergo a bridging course, he said no. all his friend did was take the ielts exam, apply for registration at the nursing board of NSW, and found an agency that sponsored him. I'm really worried about the bridging course..its really expensive. Hai..it might be much longer than I thought before I see my boyfriend again. I would really appreciate your help and your reply. God bless.

I want to ask as well. I have just had my registration as a nurse last june 2007 here in the philippines. Is it alright to pass the requirements for an assessment in Victoria? Or should i take a 6 months work experience frist, before filing... And what type of visa should i choose?

Hi guys i already have my ielts and preparing my documents to be attached in my application form. But i am worried because my IELTS is like this: 7.5 Listening, 6.5 Reading, 6.5 Writing and 7 Speaking with total of 7. Do you think it would be alright if i have 6.5 in my Writing? thanks

Just want to ask, I read the Nursing Board of Tasmania regarding their requirements for Registration as a Nurse. It says there Overseas nurse applicants who are applying for migration should FIRST CONTACT the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council for an application form for assessment of their Nursing Qualification prior to Making application with this Board.
So that means, we first have to apply at the ANMC before applying to any state board in Australia.
In ANMC, I read that we have to have atleast 1 year work experience. So does this mean that a fresh graduate like me is not qualified to pass an application to the ANMC ?
