help! accelerated bsn, no prev. degree?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I am new, and this is my first post. I am looking for an accelerated bsn program that does not require a prev. degree. The only one I have found is in Alabama. The location of the school really makes no difference to me, but does anyone know of any other programs that don't require a previous bachelors? Thanks.

I don't think you're going to find many. The whole point of the accelerated BSN program is that you don't have to do any gereral education classes, only nursing-related ones. If you don't already have a Bachelor's degree in another subject, chances are you won't have the general education classes required for a BSN.

You are doing it correctly and I don't know of any that are accellerated that don't require a BSN or AS in some other fashion.

The accelerated BSN program at University of Missouri-St. Louis accepts students with no previous degree. However, you must have at least 62 credit hours along with a 3.2 GPA or higher to be considered.

Does anyone know of any anywhere?

Not really. I know of an accelerated RN diploma program. However, it's only accelerated because you have to take all of your prerequisites first.

Have you checked http://www.discovernursing.com ? I'm not sure if that would come up in the program search or not.

Hey! The Medical Universiry of South Carolina offers an accelerated 16mos BSN and 36 mos BSN/MSN w/o a previous degree..You need to take the pre-req & the GRE....here's the website http://www.musc.edu/nursing/ Good luck!

Like the above poster said, there are programs that exist that allow you into the accelerated BSN program without a prior degree, but for all practical purposes it's as if you'd spent the time doing the ADN first anyway. You need approximately 18 pre-req courses, totalling about 60 credits, in specific areas of science, math, humanities. You must achieve a minimum of a C in all these courses, take aptitude tests and submit appropriate essays, etc for application. Preference is usually given for those with an experienced healthcare background.

These programs are really designed for someone who has gone through everything to GET the ADN, but for some reason, didn't. It's not a shortcut.

If you fall into the category of student who has all the required courses done and just didn't get an ADN (like maybe an elective shy of the degree?) you are a likely candidate for one of these programs. If you're looking for the shortcut, not having done the academics, I'm sorry but there isn't one.

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has an accelerated BSN degree, but it is still 33 months long and you attend through the summers.
