it is such a bittersweet day for me today, and should be the best day ever..I got my acceptance letter today.:nuke:....and with it a form explaining the fees that aren't covered with loans.:crying2:...and so it looks like I will not make it for the January start date....I can't help but wonder why we are not informed of the $500 non refundable deposit (on the seat that i rightfully earned with my hard work and studying) before the letter arrives, why does nursing school have to be such a mystery at my school I have been going there for over a year for my pre req's and this is the first I am hearing about $500 and in today's economy:banghead:....I am so ****** right now...thanks for listening....

Maybe because I'm older I am out of touch with financial problems like this but no way would I let $500 stop me from taking a coveted seat in nursing school. Sheesh if I had to work night shift at McDonald's I'd find that money and start school.

:confused::confused::confused:

i agree with you, however, I only have untill Dec 10th to pay this money, and I work 3 part time jobs....I won't let it stop me yet....i am going to contact the dean and see if I can make payments...

My understanding is that if your receiving financial aid deposits are waived. I know that I couldn't pay my deposit but since I had filled out the financial aid papers with my application they waived it for me. I would definately talk to financial aid, admissions, and the nursing school because you cannot be the first person having a hard time coming up with the deposit. If they can't help you I agree with the above readers and ask family members, friends, use a credit card, etc. You'd be surprise who would come forward to help you. If I had the money I'd try to help you. No one should have to sit out nursing school for financial reasons, especially when they've worked hard and want it so badly. I wish you the best of luck with this! I think it is so unfortunate that hardworking intelligent nursing students have to scramble and deal with the stress of the financial costs of nursing school along with all the other stress involved.

P.S. You should plan ahead for having to spend some money on some nursing supplies for nursing school. Every school is different but I sure wish someone had told me that for clinical I was going to need to purchase a stethoscope, bp cuff, scrubs, lab coat, pen light, bandage scissors, clinical site parking fees, NCLEX books, and to put in for a gift to the hospital staff at the end of every semester.

Find the money...find the money. Get the money! Sell a kidney if you have too...I considered working the truck stop when I first got in.

You're in! Find the money!

That said...I'd contact the registrars office and see if you can work a deal. Volunteer as a student worker, brown nose, kiss butt, whatever you need to do. Don't let $500 stop you now.

Good luck and don't stress! You got this far...start $1 at a time.

Of course it's no consolation to you, but the reason the schools ask for this deposit is because before they did some students would apply to multiple schools, accept every offer that was made to them to cover their bases, and then decide later which one they would attend. This would be OK, but they then wouldn't "stand down" the other schools, and the first day of class would come around with no-shows from people who had accepted, but then decided on something else. If you were one of the students waiting to get in, and knew that you lost a place to one of these people I am sure you would be grateful for a system that requires a commitment. It sucks, but the system is actually in place to protect the "serious" students.

I'm sorry you didn't know about it in advance though. Like others have said, find the money and get it to the school. It usually comes off your tuition for the first semester anyway, so it would be a really short term pinch until your school loans come in.

Good luck.
