  1. so my earlier post was explaining that as a new grad I got a job in LTC in NE CT. My starting wage is only 23.50, which seems low to me. I talked to some of my friends that graduated with me, and they are making significantly more per hour. I was wondering if there is a good way to talk to someone about this. I have orientation on Monday, and was thinking maybe I should call before hand. Either way I'm taking the job because I need the experience, but my gut tells me it's just not enough. Anyone have an opinion or suggestions on how to handle this situation?
  2. i start at 23.50 an hour, which I feel is low, but again thankful. And it's 32 hours a week. I feel conflicted....I worked hard to maybe relax a bit with financial stress, but on the other hand...i guess I should be greatful for the job after 4 months of searching....but it seems low right?
  3. hello all, I am happy to report that I have gotten a job (finally)...it's in LTC here in eastern CT. I was just wondering if anyone has any input on what to expect for starting salary. I don't really have a point of reference but I feel like I'm starting on the low side of things with an annual salary of 37K. Maybe it's all the commercials that have been telling me that I will be one of the highest paid careers ever . Any input will be appreciated. And just so everyone knows, I am super grateful to have the job and excited to begin my career, just looking for info.
  4. So, this week has been really hard. I am getting nowhere in my job search...I mean, not even one call back with 50+ resumes being sent out. But today, both of my close nursing "buddies" got jobs at 2 of the big hospitals in our state. And I know I should be happy for them, and I guess I am in some way, but mostly I feel jealous! And angry, and then jealous again. And sprinkled in there I also am starting to be hard on myself!! What am I doing wrong????
  5. i would absolutley consider moving, so if anyone has any good ideas for relocation....let me know.
  6. I graduated from Nursing School in September, and took my boards 2 weeks after that. I have been an RN for almost 2 months. I have sent out 30-40 applications, and haven't heard anything! I am so frustrated. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for a new grad. Is there anything I can do that will set my apart from all the other applications? I have sent my resume and reccomendation letters to several nurse managers directly, and still nothing. I am in CT, willing to work any shift on any floor to start getting my experience, I have even applied to LTC and they don't hire new grads. I am unsure of what the next move is....any advice would be well received. Thanks
  7. I found myself in disbelief today when I read that Daytonite has passed away. Often times I would post threads hoping with fingers crossed that she would reply. And she never let me down. My condolences to her family and friends. And to you Daytonite wherever you are, thank you so much for spending time and helping me through this tough process that is nursing school.
  8. i was wondering if anyone could explain how to do these 2 types of problems to me. thanks physician ordered gr. 1/200 of atropine. label reads gr. 1/100 per 1 ml. how many mls would you administer? and . order: geopen 100 mg/kg im in 4 equally divided doses. avail: 2 gm vial of geopen. add 4 ml of diluent to yield 1 gm/2.5 ml. the patient weighs 66 lbs. how many ml should you give at each dose?
  9. Thanks Daytonite, you were exactly who I was hoping would respond...it's for a powerpoint presentation, and we have to do the top 3 nursing diagnosis, and i think that is why i am having such a hard time answering, because I don't have any other things to go on....just the medical diagnosis.....thanks for your response.
  10. Hi, I am having trouble coming up with the 3 top NDX's for Wilm's Tumor. The ones that I have don't seem like they would be the top three....any help would be greatly appreciated. #1 anxiety #2 risk for injury #3 family processes, interrupted
  11. I am taking micro right now with AP 2 and I love it!!! I think it's fascinating and my teacher is amazing....I was afraid at first too...but I have a solid A in that class and only 3 weeks to go....your gonna love it!! Good luck!
  12. i agree with you, however, I only have untill Dec 10th to pay this money, and I work 3 part time jobs....I won't let it stop me yet....i am going to contact the dean and see if I can make payments...
  13. it is such a bittersweet day for me today, and should be the best day ever..I got my acceptance letter today.:nuke:....and with it a form explaining the fees that aren't covered with loans....and so it looks like I will not make it for the January start date....I can't help but wonder why we are not informed of the $500 non refundable deposit (on the seat that i rightfully earned with my hard work and studying) before the letter arrives, why does nursing school have to be such a mystery at my school I have been going there for over a year for my pre req's and this is the first I am hearing about $500 and in today's economy:banghead:....I am so ****** right now...thanks for listening....
  14. I will be starting NS in January and was wondering if any of ya'll had any stethoscope reccomendations....i can't afford a Littman...so any other ideas for me...also how about shoes, I have plantar fascitis and really high arches with turned in weak ankles....any reccomendations for shoes that will help me be able to walk by the time I get home? Any info would be great...thanks:nuke:
