I would be surprised if you didn't get in.

You can be accepted into the nursing program but they won't be allowed to go onto the professional phase until they finish Micro and AP2. Also I haven't heard of anyone getting in without taking the HESI since they send letters a year earlier than the student's expected entrance to the professional year. For example my friend just took her HESI exam this past Friday and she's not starting the nursing courses until Spring 2010. Also it says it right on the academic sheet that lists the classes and on the website itself that the HESI must be taken before nursing courses. If your GPA cuts it, you are usually granted status as a Nursing student but that doesn't mean you'll be able to go on to the professional phase.

The current motto for the school's program is that it's easy to get into but hard to stay in. They accept over 100 students every semester but at the end of the two years usually about 50 or 60 wind up graduating due to the intensity of the program.

I read it on their website yesterday and called the nursing department. You are right the hesi exam has to be taken before registering for any professional level course. Quick question, can you take the exam now and still take classes in the Fall semester? or you have to apply a year before for the Fall semester?

once you are accepted as a nursing student, you do not need to apply again to the professional phase. You just have to go the the nursing department and sign up to take the HESI. If you are starting in the fall, you can take the test in the fall, too. I haven't heard of anyone having problems signing up to take the exam earlier than normal. Just remember to keep a copy of your results to show to our advisor when you register for your nursing courses.

I used to go there for pharmacy but couldn't get past chemistry. Now I am in a different school about to graduate from Nursing.

I sent in my admission deposit last week, so i'm officially going to LIU! I got rejected from SUNY Downstate and after doing a cost analysis of LIU and NYU (it seems to be about a $13,500 differential roughly) I picked LIU. I know its longer, but at least here I'll have the opportunity to do an externship during the summer if I choose to. Just gotta get one more Chemistry class done this summer!

If anyone has any questions about the HESI let me know, I took it March 28th, scored a 95% using the Evolve book they recommend, I didn't think it was difficult after studying from that. Better than the NET for sure.

Congrats! I am still waiting to hear from LIU. They said they have my trans now but I should wait for about 2-3 weeks for a decision. I will call them again this week.

What areas did they test for on the Hesi exam? I am a bit worried about the entrance exam.

You have to score a cumalitive of atleast 75% between over four sections: Reading Comp, Grammar, Math and Vocab. You're also tested on A&P, Chemistry and Biology. They see those scores too, but they aren't factored in. After taking the test you can see online how you did compared to the rest of the people that took the test along with you. It was clear that everyone studied for the first 4 sections and just kinda wanted to get the other sections over with.

Thank you. I want to start studying for the exam especially the grammar and vocab sections. That is my weakest point!

Goodluck and I hope I see you in the fall session

Congrats Riles on gettig in! I called them yesterday and I did not get accepted. Oh well, it just wasnt meant to be. I applied at other colleges, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

i have to be honest that i don't like the admission process at liu. they aren't efficient and they do not follow-up promptly. my friend applied there less than a month (3 prereqs missing) and got accepted already but my other friend was rejected and she has a 3.4 gpa with all the prereqs completed. as for me, i am still waiting to hear something.

i hope liu wasn't your first or only choice because i advise you apply to other schools too.
