What are your thoughts on the correlation between proposed reform and its impact on the salaries or nurses? Include RN's, ANP's & CRNA's...

2013? So we have about 3 years until it goes into effect. A lot will change by then. I will most likely be in another job by then as nobody has ever stayed where I'm at for more than a year or two max. Hopefully my next job will pay better and/or offer affordable insurance...

I think you're right regards interstate commerce. They will also use the incorrectly applied general welfare clause. After thought on it my guess is that it will hold up. Not because it fits into one of the enumerated powers of the fed( which in case no one knows is what made our country unique) but because the court has ruled so many times in the past allowing expansion beyond limits.

I've said for years goverment medicine is a matter of when not if. It reminds me of Atlas Shrugged. Call me crazy but seeing as how they have been unable to run anything well I just don't see them suddenly scoring a home run in medicine.

But such is life.

So, there's no evidence that care will increase. More than likely, it will decrease. There will be a lot of red tape and steps to go through to receive specific types of care and care will decrease for elderly. Look at Medicare, it's gov't run and it's one of the worst systems. It's kind of hard to trust anything different will occur.

I know of A LOT of doctors that will be leaving practice if this goes through. Some, going back to their home country, some just early reitirement. Some of those "unintended consequences". Whatever their reasons, doesn't matter. There will be few doctors.

The interstate commerce clause is the most abused clause in the constitution, congress thinks it can regulate everything and it is justified by it. It is bogus. Interstate regulation was initially meant to "make regular" commerce between states, not dictate every aspect of our lives through regulation. Congress will do whatever it can to gain power, and it just grabbed a huge chunk against the will of the people it claims to represent.

Agreed. I would like to see their pay cut drastically, as well as their privileges taken away (tax funded flights for fund raisers and expensive lunches, their lifetime health care).

We have created a class of political elite which has, by and large, become out of touch, arrogant, and greedy...not to mention incredibly bogged down in the election process itself.

The possibility of having a lifetime career with lifetime benefits coupled with the POWER of a lifetime political seat overcomes the ability to do good for too many people. Our government is slowed down by the campaigning needs of our congress. 40% of their time is spent collecting money or seeking votes. Last I knew we paid them for full time work, not 60%.

The power of the political parties would become more limited if EVERY elected official in DC from President to Congressman KNEW from the outset that they could serve for 8 years PERIOD.

Current law allows them to collect a pension from their government "service" if the serve for a minimum of 5 years...then they may be paid something up to but not in excess of 80% orf their final salary. I'm sure there is some convoluted math thing they do to come up with a reasonable number.
