  1. It's quite boring. But kids were there when I attended. I'm sure the parents in the room will certainly understand.
  2. I never said I could bypass anything. I know the classes needed. Aside from the general eds that I have done, I have BIOL 189 done and look forward to 223, 224 & 251. That will take a year. The only debt is out-of-pocket. I have general eds, up to organic chemistry, BIOL 196 & 197 done (which is why I have 189 complete). Yeah, it does make sense. I need B-E-N-E-F-I-T-S! I am facing a divorce as well. I can try to manage one year without them but two is a bit much. Aside from that, there's no way I can pay for school for the year I need for prerequisites (which I know I need) plus the two years for an ADN, assuming I get in on the first try! My divorce has me frazzled. In actuality, undertaking an LPN program invariably is LONGER a route to RN. I need a better salary and such to sustain ME. I know you have excellent intentions with the advice. Thank you. I just need to get on track with a lot more than just nursing goals.
  3. If I were able to get a job as a CNA here at my current job I'd just pursue my BSN. I need more than the $12/hr I get and benefits. I can't get financial aid like I mentioned before. Since even with experience my employer won't hire me as a CNA I need to do something else soon! I was a CNA at a LTC. I have friends that are LPN's there that I poach for inside info. Yes, there's a lot more than what is seen that gets done. I looked into Pharmacy tech and Phlebotomy. Ultimately I want the RN but can't be without insurance and pay for three years of schooling on $12/hr.
  4. Given that I would have to do a year of prereq's before I get into RN school the LPN route seems better economically. I do have a CNA license but my current employer won't hire me as one. And yes, I do have over a year experience as a CNA in SNF's and corrections.
  5. Now if only I can get the Medical Terminology class in this upcoming Spring and take the TEAS soon I'll be set for Fall 2012 to start LPN school at CSN.
  6. I've been grateful to have worked as a CNA in SNF's. I also had work at UMC as well. The market is hard here for EVERYONE regardless of title in health care. CNA, LPN or RN the road is tough everywhere.
  7. Nevada doesn't use medication aides. However, there was talks about expanding the role of the CNA (for which I'm already certified). Now the $16/hr for CNA is only in hospitals. The SNF's are paying at most $11.25/hr to start. I've applied for every opening for CNA at this hospital to no avail. I could do LPN school and work SNF making $21/hr instaed of the $12/hr I make now plus I'll have benefits. The extra money is needed in my situation. That one year of school is gonna be freakin' tough especially divorcing and all but necessary. Yes I want to be a nurse. I am, it appears, will go through all the stops. Sitter, CNA, LPN (soon) & RN (eventually BSN as well). I may even move into NP realm but I'm just going one step at a time.
  8. I am a hospital sitter. I make $12/hr there and no benefits. Since they won't hire me as a CNA I have to cultivate more options. A CNA here (Nevada) makes $16/hr. I know that LPN's are primarily in skilled nursing here in town and I'm ok with that. Also, I with my completed courses can finish the LPN program in one year. In LTC they make $21/hr. I don't mind a $9/hr bump PLUS benefits. Will becoming an LPN be worth it in the long run? I need to make more money ASAFP. From there I could do the CSN bridge to RN. My pending divorce is really screwing up my prior plans an as such I can't wait to get into the RN program. A year for prerequisites alone?? I can be making the money I need with benefits in this time. There's so many programs here at CSN. Health IT, Respiratory Therapy, Rad Therapy, etc. By far this is gonna help me out the soonest. I really could use some insight. Also, this is all coming out-of-pocket. I can't get financial aid. I'm maxed out.

  10. The 7 week course is over summers. Online with ------- is the best. It is wise to inquire as to what clinical class is associated with a particular site. I got lucky in that my clinical was a half mile from my home.
  11. Best of luck to you both. I guess the LPN program isn't as popular. Bully for us. I'll take that and run with it.
  12. Anyone applying to CSN's LPN program for 2011 (Fall)? I am and wish everyone the best of luck and hope to see some of you there in classes (assuming I get in too, lol) Only got 14/19 points though (1 for CNA license, 1 for working, 2 for TEAS and 10 for Eng 101).
  13. My job: CNA: $12.00/hr, LPN: $24.00/hr, RN: $37.00/hr To start. To stay (for a while).
  14. For as much as you say they are equal yet different you fail to state that the "working with people" and "working with data" aspects of the job are in fact interchangeable. A better statement would be "If you enjoy working with people and being on a team to solve complex problems in a medical environment, go into healthcare." There does exist doctors who couldn't take nursing school and nurses that can't take medical school. This notion that doctors are autonomous and have little interactions with patients is absurd. When in healthcare it's important to keep the focus on the patient not who does what and who's the Queso Grande. If I were a physician there are situations where I'd abdicate to the nursing staff. Were I a nurse I would do the same in instances as well. No person in healthcare is an island, for one simply can not function effectively without the other. However, I offer that if you feel so strongly about the superiority of doctors they have forums for that (ie, Student Doctor Network). In case you (and you know who you are) didn't look at the URL this is www.allNURSES.com. Just a thought...
  15. I applied for a CNA position at a medium security correctional facility. This was in August of 2010. I received a phone call first week of April asking if I was still interested and I said yes. Had an interview and 3 weeks later was offered a position there. I'm not sure what to expect. It's a male facility (I'm male, btw). I was told during the interview not to wear blue or orange scrubs and it's a 10-hr shift. Anyone have any insight as to what times they work (shift hours) and what a CNA at a correctional facility does? I'm curious to find out. As a lingering curiosity, does anyone think that me being 6'3'' and 350lb had anything to do with me getting hired, lol? I thank you for all your comments and suggestions. Also, if anyone here works at a NV facility I'd REALLY want to hear your take.
