Health Care Reform passed, more jobs for nurses??? Yes or No???

Nurses New Nurse

Now that the Healthcare Reform Bill has passed the Senate, does it mean more jobs for nurses (experience + new grads)??? Does it mean more regulation, more paperwork, and the quality of healthcare service might diminish???

I hope the Health Care Reform will help me to find a job too!

As a new grad in California, I don't know how to find a job at this time.

Specializes in Clinicals.

I sure hope so :uhoh3:

I will be graduating in May with my BSN, and have already been told, "we do not want new grads"! I am hoping and praying that jobs will open up, because the job market in Phx is not so good right now :crying2:!

IMHO, with the fact that bulk of it doesn't take effect until 2014, you won't see an increase in Nursing Jobs just because it passed.

If the economy improves....we could have a shot at getting a job.

I think the jobs will eventually open up me and doctor were talking about this earlier but it will happen slowly probably by 2011 you will see a need greateer for nurses...new and seasoned..

I miss those school days when I was doing clinicals and seeing SIGN-IN BONUSES all over the hospital for newly grads RNs.

I think it means higher patient-to-nurse ratios. If the hospitals are getting reimbursed less than they are now then I think they will cut corners everywhere.

I think the bill will open up hiring for nurses around 2013-2014. I think nurse practitioners will be in greater demand to replace primary care physician positions that cannot be filled, at lower cost. I think there will be a greater demand for pediatric nursing services. Some nursing positions may be negatively impacted, but I think it will be possible to improve one's salary through greater education. Of course, none of us has a crystal ball.

Ask this again in 2014 when mandatory insurance kicks in.

Some people are just optimistic because they live in blue states. My experience is that those who are from Red states tend to view it differently. Just one person's opinion.
