Headed to South Alabama for Summer Term

U.S.A. Alabama

Published

Hey everyone,

I am headed to the Mobile campus and starting this summer. I was wondering if anyone else was headed down there. I am entering the program as a prior degree student, and excited to get this journey started. Anyone have any feedback on this program, living area, want to throw in their two cents, or just want to post something about mobile or the university please feel free. I have looked through the other threads but nothing has really jumped out about this program. I will also answer any questions some of you may have if I can

Hi!

Question for all of you in the Mobile area. I have to come to the USA Main Campus the last week of July.... in the acceptance letter it gave a link to the USA student affairs site for travel/hotels for us to stay in while we are there. Thing is I have NO clue as to which one would be closer, safer, better etc. I live about 4 hours north of Mobile, and the only place in the southwest corner I am familiar with is Gulf Shores. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Just stay at a hotel around the west side of Mobile, near the campus. Mobile has the reputation for high crime (like Montgomery or Birmingham), but that's more of the downtown area.. I was happily surprised by the west side.

hello cardiotrans,

i live here in mobile, and have been all of my life. since you will be enrolling @ the end of july, and you need to be close west mobile. i live in west mobile, and i like it very much. of course, their are rough crime areas in any city so yes, the downtown area towards the bay is a little more crime intense. you should do a mapquest from your home to mobile. also google any travel/hotels, attractions etc. that you would be interested in once you settle in. take it from me, mobile is a pretty nice place to be, and south is a good school to be at. hope you enjoy!!

Thanks to you both!! I am getting excited and nervous all at the same time. My youngest child starts college in the Fall as well....... he will be in the North end of the state living on campus... and I will be visiting South off and on.....

Seems like Aug is forever away, then I stop and think about it, and its only 3 months away!!!

Wow, first let me say congrats to everyone who will be starting the nursing program in the summer. I am a current nursing student @ USA and I will say it is going to be hard and stressful, but also fun and entertaining.

Hmm, of the things I have heard on here

1. Yes, we will be in the new building! I am kind of excited, but will miss being at SHAC.

2. Don't know your incoming schedule, but if you guys are taking Health Assessment, Pharm and Patho it will be a pretty good first semester. Dr. Vanderwaa teaches Pharm and Patho. She is awesome and you will really enjoy her classes. I will say that buying the books for those two classes are not necessary. Print her notes, go to class and you have all the information you need. Health Assessment is taught by different instructors. Lots of information will be covered and I am sure since it is summer it will be fast paced. Remember to review the book and your notes. Keep up on all the material!! Don't put off studying til last minute or it will not be pretty!

Once again, congrats to all of you and welcome to the USA Nursing Family!

Got my schedule today

Are you just now getting your schedule because you are a new student? Are you taking all three classes?

yeah transfer from another university

Did everyone go to the orientation today? I would have been nice if we had gotten a tour of the building. Other than that I excited to start the new semester.

YAY....I am glad to hear that you guys made it through orientation and got your schedules. Can't wait til you guys start. Welcome to the USA Nursing Family!
