HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! :bugeyes: The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

the first HCC ADN orientation was last july 14...there were like 60 people there (my guesstimate)

so, good luck to all of you here hoping to get in this fall because there are still some more spaces.

There's one last orientation for the summer pharm crowd and any others on Aug 19 or so.... classes start Aug 25!

this girl in my pharm class said that in this last 2nd exam there was only about a total of 170 people taking the exam!(she was saying in total of all the pharm classes) but don't quote me on that, but I do have to admit, there's about half the students in my class then when it started! and I know that there are some people who are slightly passing the course, but didn't pass the math test so they are re-testing, if they pass the class.

Ms. Grant herself made a comment in class that they will be LUCKY to have 100 students pass this summer!!! Didnt the summer start out with like about 300 students? Anway, she said she was pushing it by saying that 100 will pass!! lol. She also said that last year they had about 180 slots open for fall 07 entry and only around 150 were admitted. That has alot to do with students deferring, not having their hep b series complete on time, etc. That being said... if you have a high B or an A right now and passed the FIRST math exam with flying colors you will most likely get in this fall. Also, having Micro, A&P2, Psych-Lifespan, and a humanities out of the way makes you better. This is the impression I am getting from what she tells us-I honestly dont how they "choose". She also did mention that about 35 students were going to try to test out of HCC's Pharm test that took Pharmacology at another campus.

Who looks at our files when they select applicants? Is it the secretary??? LOL.

Hey thanks for that info, I guess we can expect a small class this Fall :)

I didn't know that you could even take the HESI without completing all the academic courses... I'm just glad that I have everything out of the way.

I'm also curious about the decision making. Besides passing Pharm and having the academics done, I guess they just look at GPA. At least, I hope that's all they look at, coz I've worked my a** off!

Hmmmm....I'm getting nervous now. I have everything except for that my Lifespan class is over 5 years old. I have A's in everything except 1 B and made a 100 on the Math....hope that is good enough!!!! Wonder if they look at if we already have a degree????

They definitely don't care if you have a degree already, so don't worry about that.

The Coleman website says:

"Note: BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402 and PSYC 2314 must have been taken within five years of admission"

I would email the secretary to confirm that so you can avoid any surprises.
