Hca hospitals and ipn .........

hello everyone!

I got a call today from a nurse recruiter for the HCA corporation to interview for a job at a HCA hospital in Florida. Has anyone in the IPN program been employed with HCA while in the IPN program? the nurse recruiter just asked basic questions. I didn't reveal my IPN involvement to her, but will when the nurse manager interviews me, of course. I just want to get past H.R. she said she will pass my info to the unit manager and she will call to set up an interview. I also told her I wanted to do the interview in person. hopefully, I get this job...... not sure how much longer I can stay in the IPN program financially. it's killing me. I have credit cards with balances creeping up...... PLEASE GOD I NEED THIS JOB. I HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH!

anyone out there with HCA and IPN experience? :)

I have no knowledge of this specific situation, however I'm familiar with HCA. I would not mention the ipn in the interview. It is not at all necessary to reveal. You will do a background check and at that point you will either "pass" or "fail" (for lack of better words). A company like HCA has protocols they follow quite rigidly- once they offer you a position, the job is yours as long as you get all your stuff in order and you pass the drug and background screens. However, if you reveal the ipn before that offer is given, they may pull that rug right out from under you.

So, again, I adamantly suggest you do not mention it. Good luck to you.

thank you squidbillies! I will do exactly that. I wonder though when they go over my resume' they will see that I haven't worked as a nurse in the last 5 yrs...... how will I go about explaining that. also, my criminal background has several offenses because of my alcohol abuse: dui's x 2, and 1 dropped, disorderly conduct (fight with boyfriend) and a pot possession ( 1/2 a joint), all non-felony charges..... I may not be able to get around this without explaining i'm in a rehabilitative program such as IPN. anyway, thanks so much for the advice. I guess I will just have to see how she responds and do my best.

I have been a participant of ipn and worked at a hca facility. My advice be honest. Legally they can not ask why you are in ipn but they can decide not to hire you because you did not divulge your involvement in the program. The only person that has to know about the program is your direct supervisor. I understand your frustrations and worries but as a RN that has completed the program there is hope. Best of luck

I'm not in IPN but I am in the AP here in NC, I too would suggest being open and honest about your program, Its not a good idea to withhold information and attempt to try and explain it later. If they cant accept you with your flaws and see that you are trying to do your best, then its not the right place for you. Have you tried dialysis?

i am always honest about my involvement in IPN. unfortunately, i did not get the job..... she was very understanding and personable and blah blah blah blah....... no one is going to hire me. i am kicking a dead horse that is not going to get up and run. who am i fooling???? sure, i made mistakes, all humans do. but, because of my arrests (misdemeanors), i look like crap on paper. no one cares that i worked as a O.R. Tech, then R.N. for 30 yrs with no problems on the job, great references.....etc. i may as well be a murderer or child molester the way they judge me. i hate this crap...........

Virgojd I understand your frustrations o was in IPN during nursing school and had to remain it for 2 years after graduation. So I had no experience and a record but prayer changes things. Even if you are not religious just know it just takes the right director to hire you. Plenty of places told me NO! I was even hired then fired once they found out about IPN. In the end inwas able to find a job and complete the program. You may have to work anywhere just to get your foot in the door.

thank you NurseBoogie for the encouraging words and thoughts. just having one of those days. I do have a lot to be thankful for. I have a great family, boyfriend and health. I have decided this year will be a more positive thinking year for me!

HCA was the hospital company that reported me for accidentally sending dilaudid to the lab with my lab vials at the end of a busy ER shift while giving report (the drug was in the bag that i tubed to lab.. never even took it).... Consider yourself lucky. However, I just got a job at a nursing home and I looked 6 months this time. Today was my 3rd day and it is ALOT of work ( I nearly had a breakdown mid shift 22 patients and in charge!). However, my ADON and several others there have gone through the same thing. Been looking off and on for almost 4 years. My recommendation: stick to small facilities because you wont get past HR at the big ones. Try dialysis, ltac, and nursing homes. They are desperately understaffed and you will work like a dog but it will get you through your stips and time. Be humble, honest, and be willing to do whatever they ask. Dont kiss ass but be firm in your recovery and your commitment to the company and to prove yourself as a nurse. You could even try to go PRN and/or work a shift for free just to show them... Or, maybe volunteer somewhere or maybe as a nurse assistant and hope something comes of it. It's not impossible but it takes alot of perseverance and HUMILIATION. It is an emotional ride for sure but try and keep it together. Good luck.

I got another job interview and went yesterday. this is a LTC facility. seems to be the most hopeful place to be employed for IPN nurses. the interview went great and the DON hired me. I still have to do background check and fingerprinting, but hopefully that will go smooth as well. I don't consider myself hired until i'm on the job working! LMBO!! I've had so many no's that I can't get my hopes up. I am really excited though and will let y'all know the final outcome!! thanks for everyone's encouraging words and thoughts. I really do appreciate it and thanks for letting me vent and act like a brat! lol!!! good thoughts and prayers from me to all of you here on this forum. you are all brave and sweet souls! we have to be there for each other, because who else understands what we go through! love you guys!!! MUAH! XOXOOX
