ORANGE PARK MEDICAL CENTER, JACKSONVILLE FL
Hi Just got a job at Orange Park Medical Center in Jacksonville FL. Has anyone worked there in the OPERATING ROOM? I was hesitant when accepting the job, due to many openings in the o.r. The pay was comparable @ 41/hr with a 15k bonus up front (with 2 yr commitment). Would like any opinions good or bad. Thanks in advance ?

What do I do? What would you do?
Thanks everyone for the great responses. I did get the raise (very quickly which was surprising) and also another raise , so pretty satisfied, but would like to get our call pay increased.... Southern states call pay is RIDICULOUSLY LOW

CVOR Call Pay
Thanks so much for offering, but I've been working in the O.R. since 1980. I was a tech for 10yrs prior to becoming a RN. I currently work in CVOR. I'm doing a little research on call pay esp for CVOR... and esp in this area. We (my cvor team) are trying to raise our call pay which is 5/hr. Our reason is we have only 1 surgeon and some days we don't work so our paychecks are pathetic, it happens a lot. we sometimes work in the mail o.r. but they don't always need us....

CVOR Call Pay
I am doing some research on CALL PAY. Esp CVOR CALL PAY. But would like to hear about General O.R. as well. I am currently working in the panhandle of FL in a CVOR program. We have 1 surgeon, so some days we have no cases and we're on call @ 5 dollars per hr. This doesn't even help our pay on the paycheck. We are trying to increase the call pay to 10 hr to subsidize the loss of money for the days we have no cases. Sometimes we fill in in the Main OR, but they don't always need us. How much are you making for CALL PAY AND WHERE IN THE U.S. ARE YOU? Thanks for any info!

What do I do? What would you do?
I found out my hospital (HCA) is paying nurses with the same experience and less, 1.16 more per hour. If this were you, what would you do? I sent an email to HR asking what they were paying (to confirm) nurses with my experience and she literally sent back a generic email, dancing around the subject without answering the question. So I had a friend of mine with the same experience to apply for the same job I have and she was quoted 1.16 more per hr. I saw the email (which came from hca corporate) confirming MY HOSPITAL is starting nurses out with my exp, 1.16 more per hr..... I just want to hear from others and their opinions on how they would handle it and advice. thanks in advance, you guys!!

ER to OR????
RN1.618, RN is correct. It's a whole different world other than nursing in other areas where school or other depts can prepare you. As RN1.618 said, give it about 2 yrs to truly comfortable where you can anticipate needs of the O.R. team. Doing many different cases, many start to specialize, like being mainly with Neuro cases or Ortho cases. I'm in CVOR and love it. I have 4 decades of O.R. exp. Would never change it, I'd do it again.

Bovie grounding pads
Over the course of 4 decades of working in the o.r., I have never seen a burn from a bovie pad. I've always been taught that it isn't the metal in the area that can cause problems, but the scar tissue caused by the implantation of said metal. Scar tissue is not conductive due to less "water" in the tissues....

Bovie grounding pads
Hi and congrats! Many hospitals have the Star Programs for New Nursing Grads. They will train you to work in the dept you've been hired for. I believe most have you sign a contract also. Call your nearby hospitals and inquire. *this thread is for the topic on bovies. start a new thread and you'll have more responses.*

Bovie grounding pads
We use the Megadyne Gel Pad, so no bovie pads for us any longer.... TTL
