HBU FNP 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd start a thread for this since HBU has a new FNP program so there's not much information out there about it. I am applying for the Aug. 2017 start date and have submitted the req. docs. Anyone else thinking of applying or have any information?

Thanks for creating this thread @telma09 and hi everyone.

It's now 2019, and they're still not accredited but said to be accredited by November of this year.

The tuition is still the same (about 18k)

One thing they have changed is the 1 class every 8 weeks. I guess for some reason they believe taking 3 classes for 16 weeks is a better option. But I can tell you right now, it's not. It's almost impossible to study for each class, do all assignments for each class, and work at the same time.

Oh and did I mention its, advanced pharm, advanced patho, and theories for the first semester. I'm having a blast (sarcasm)

Sorry to hear your issues Maima2kris, what cohort are you in? I'm in cohort 3 and we still have 8-week classes and are scheduled to continue the 8-week schedule through completion next August. They must have just changed the curriculum behind my cohort. Honestly, once you make it through patho and pharm, the next two classes are easy (or they will seem easy compared to the nightmare you are living through now). Good luck!

@maima2kris

I am sorry you're having a hard time. I can't say much because our cohort, like the previous user mentioned, had 8 week courses. I know they changed it into 16 week courses because some students suggested it would be better. I know they are pretty good about listening to our input so I would definitely mention it on one of the surveys or email directly. I also agree patho is probably the hardest class out of the whole program. I am currently taking the last course.

This semester, fall 2019 is the cohort I'm in. Must be nice ?

@telma09

And yea, that's what they had mentioned but I can't see how. When I attended the seminar in the Spring, one of the current students had 2 children, with one on the way, worked full time, and still had time for activities for herself, children, and family in general.

But thanks you guys. Good luck this semester and future semesters to come!

I really want to know your take on the program as a whole so far? i needed something flexible and i was used to the 5 weeks courses with UTA. I only applied because they had it advertised as 8 weeks courses on their website but i see now that it is 16 weeks courses.

Hey all! I just wanted to follow up. I’m currently in the FNP program and was wondering if you felt the program prepared you for the NP boards. I did not see their boards pass rate on the website.

Also, I have been reading previous responses, did the program help with preceptor placement?

Thank you in advance!

Hey ? they have not helped me at all.. last semester I was dropped from my clinical sites because of covid and I was pregnant they felt it was too much of a liability. I spoke with the directors multiple times and received no placement assistance.. now Im taking a break because they won't let me make up the hours while going to school.. keep in mind Im a great student! A+ on all courses so far.. I feel at a loss with this program.. I’m not sure if I want to go back but I feel like I should but then I would have no idea how to get clinical sites now and it’s been a very difficult and unfortunate experience with them so far.. feels like 5 grand down the drain since other programs won’t take all of my credits.. I only had a year left..

I would switch now if you are just starting and looking for help with placement

previously I had seen their pass rates were in the 90s

Just saw in their website that pass rates right now are 80%

@RgvRN Thank you very much for your response and I am so sorry of the unfortunate series of event you have has to go through. Covid has definitely been a huge detrimental effect.

I have considered looking at different programs. One of the reasons I had applied was because the start time of the program has worked out perfectly.

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use to help you find your clinical sites? Did you use the share-point MSN documents that was provided to us? I have tried to access it but am being denied at this time.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey and I hope things will work out in your favor.
