Hello fellow nurses. I’ve been a nurse for almost 4years now in a LTC / skilled nursing facility here in Manhattan. 2 years LPN on a sub-acute unit, 2years RN working as a nurse manager and supervisors. I’m in a place where in I need growth in my nursing career. So I’ve been trying to apply to hospitals in NY but no luck. I also have my BSN. I’m stuck in LTC. I’ve been applying after for almost a year now. Not a single interview. I even hire someone to fix my resume. I asked my friends who works in the hospitals but never heard from any of them. When I go job hunting it shows hospitals are hiring. But they want someone who has experience. I’ve been applying to every single job openings I can see. How can I get experience If I can’t even get in ?. I’m stuck!!

I posted a similar topic a few months ago…nonetheless, you should rework your resume to highlight all the “hands on” patient focused skills you acquired while in LTC…I was having the same problem and when I did that hospitals started calling me. Also, you may need to look outside the “city” of New York and look “upstate”. I know with absolute certainty hospitals in Buffalo, NY and Syracuse, NY (and more upstate) are hiring. Lastly, LTAC (long term acute care hospitals) is a great way to get experience also. Good luck!

I advise going to the face to face open house, where you will get to state your case directly to hiring managers. That's what I did in 2019 after taking a refresher course. I had not worked since 2006. I got hired. An LTC nurse who I sat next to in the waiting area got hired too. Sometimes a lot of people don't show up to these open houses so you have a better chance.
