Have you ever made a stupid mistake....?

Published

...if you have, please share your stories :) I made one tonight, and I still feel stupid. I was giving someone a bath in one of those bathtubs where the front opens like a door and you can wheel the bathchair in. Well, once I had the tub filled up, I realized the door was leaking....so silly me... i thought if I just pull the door handle and push it shut tight, the problem would be fixed. I didnt realize how forceful the water in a bathtub can be- as soon as I pulled the handle, the water shot out on me..... and our entire hallway was soon swimming. Nobody got hurt and most people seemed to just get a good laugh out of this....but I still feel like I should have seen this coming. well, actually I know I should have. I just didnt think it through. Sooooo....did anyone else ever do something incredibly stupid....? Btw, I ended up spending my break shopping for dry clothes, cause I got soaked down to my panties....lesson learned =)

I work on a surgical floor so alot of our older patients have difficulty urinating after their foley is removed after surgery. For one patient, I left the water running in her sink so the sound of the water would help with the urge to pee. I only meant to leave it on for a few minutes, but got tied up doing other things. About 20 minutes later our CNA comes running down the hall yelling "Who left the water on??" There was water everywhere!!! All through the patients room, out into the hallway, and starting to go into other patients rooms. The best part was that it was about 3:00 in the morning and all the commotion woke several patients up. Housekeeping was not happy to have to come up and clean up the mess, either. :banghead:

I unspiked the bag too with it still on the pole but only once:imbar

:prdnrs:

I've done that. With the daughter of the patient who was a seasoned nurse in the room. Fortunately, she laughed and admitted to having done it herself. But like you-once and only once.

Long time ago but have yet to forget this one! While working in CCU I had a gentleman with an AMI who was setting in chair and started vomiting. Of course I usually try to grab the bath pan as those little emesis basins hold nothing. Bath pan gone so emesis basin readily available and he kept filling it up. In between I kept running back and forth between the pt and the "hopper" that was located varily close to him. After about the 3rd time he's pointing to the basin while holding his mouth preparing for another spew as I emptied it into the hopper and "flushed". After it was all over he smiles, looks at me and starts laughing very loudly. I couldnt think the world of me why. Well then I noticed - "Where's his top dentures?" I was elbow deep in that hopper as if "I could save them" LOL. I had flushed his dentures in the mist of emptying the basin over and over. Next day his family brought him this huge basket of beautiful peaches. He laughed as he gave me the basket telling me to enjoy them with a big smile on his face. Talk about embarrasement writing up that incident report doh!!!!!

I recently started nursing school and while learning to make a closed bed, my classmate and I had to move the dummy. So we decided on moving him to a commode..instead of laying him down on the floor like everyone else. Well during the move my classmate carrying his right side(sheesh they weigh a ton!!)let him go so then he dropped it on the floor ...And there goes the dummy's member rolling across the room....we now call her the member remover...

Yep, I've actually done this same mistake.... well nearly. My classmate and I flooded the tub room at our first clinical facility. I swear it must be the same model of tub. Not only was there water everywhere, but the patient was sitting in the tub screaming her head off because she hates baths. It's funny now, but we were mopping and cleaning up water for nearly an hour! :p
