I've heard through the grapevine that some of the faculty at our school made special efforts for the people that failed this summer so that those people would pass. Meaning they dropped some questions off the final just for the people who failed to help some of those pass. Also it seems the faculty is going to go back through all the test taken and see if there are anymore points that can be given. The point being that they are only doing this for the people who failed. I ended up with a high B in the class and feel that if they are gonna make special efforts for some of the students, they should make it for all of us. It could mean an A for me in the class and several people could benefit from it. Thankfully our class president is going to the President of our nursing program and speaking on behalf of all of those who passed and is gonna fight for all of our test to be reviewed. Truthfully I believe they should never have given any more points to those who failed and we should all just live with the grades we have already. What do you guys think about this?

Mine isn't usually a popular viewpoint, but I think if you don't make the grade, too bad, see ya. That's life, grow up and deal with it.
When you're in the hospital do you want your patient care to be 59%?

Unfortunately it is a lot easier to bump up the failing students, and thus avoid BRN sanctioning, than get rid of bad instructors/ensure quality education.

Do you know for a fact that this is happening or is it just a rumor?
I think the problem with going to the Department President with a lot of hearsay can reflect badly on you, and not the specific faculty member and "failing" students.
Gather some evidence before you do. If I personally didn't have any, then I will just leave the situation be and just focus on myself and my own grades.

I wish-passing by us is 77.5-C plus. If you get a 77.4 your out! They can help people pass all they want, but when it comes to the NCLEX those professors won't be there, then that person is really scre-wed (censors). Professors are doing them a dis-service, and their kidding themselves.

In our school, the professor's don't write the tests. Sometimes they don't see it before we do. Sometimes the questions were badly written or in one case, none of the answers were right. The teachers got together, reviewed the test and threw out those questions for EVERYONE. If you failed after that. You failed.

It sounds to me like you school is on the brink of losing the nursing program. I agree w/ stripec30. It is much easier to bump a few students than to lose anything and work like heck to regain it. Nursing schools have to maintain a certain passing rate. It's just like some instructors you may have had in the past. I remember having a horribly difficult Bio instructor. People were dropping and flunking like flies. She ended up changing her ways. Not only does a certain 'program' like NE have to have a passing rate, but so does the instructor.

Do not join the rumor mongers. Pay attention to your own grades and studies and let the others do their own whining. Those who are destined to fail, will.
Thanks to everyone for their advice. I appreciate it! I, personally, only know this to be rumors, however, others say they have proof. I am not the one going to the president, but agree that if it is true, then they should do for everyone. Thanks again for the advice!!!

I agree with previous poster that if you can't make it, then there shouldn't be special effort put forth. NS is hard for a reason! We started out with 114 and have only 90 enrolled for the next semester. I really liked all the people I know that didn't pass, and was good friends/skills partners with one of them. I am sad that they didn't make it, but you either make it or you don't.
And at our school, 70-79 is a C, so we have it much easier than alot of you. If you can't get a 70%, then maybe it's not the field for you.

We have lost about 7 people out of 40 going into the last semester. More than a few of these lost people were dropped because of just being short a point or two overall. I can't imagine the program would ever just decided on a whim that ONE semester they would do something special for just a few people. They would have to go back and do it for all the people who failed out of our class the last three semesters, and then risk being sued by past classes who also weren't given extra points to pass. When you set a standard you have to maintain that standard for EVERYONE.
