  1. I graduated nursing school on a Friday and interviewed for a dialysis job the following Monday and got the job. I am a hemodialysis RN in a chronic clinic. With all the training I have been given I feel perfectly fine not having the med-surg experience that most people say that you need. If you want to go into a speciality, then do it! Dialysis is hard, but a new grad can do it! I say go for it!!
  2. I got a job in a dialysis clinic and I graduated with my ADN two weeks ago. I heard that Brookwood said they are not hiring anymore new grads until September and I do believe all the other Birmingham hospitals have hired most of the new grads they are going to hire for right now. I think mostly it's a waiting game for most of the new grads out there. I was lucky enough to find one but a lot of people I know are not as fortunate. Good luck to everyone looking out there!!!
  3. I've applied EVERYWHERE in central alabama. And I do mean EVERYWHERE. I've had one interview and did not get the job. I hope it gets better soon!!! It stresses me out!
  4. If where you are is anything like my state, you would take the job and continue to look for your "dream" job. I have a job interview Monday at a hospital 1 1/2 hours away from my home with other hospitals 30 minutes from my home, but the closer hospitals haven't called me for an interview. If I'm offered that job, then I am going to take it. The way I see it is that any experience is "experience." Almost all jobs that I have applied for say we are looking for a nurse with more experience. How are we new grads supposed to get experience if no one will give us a chance?!
  5. thanks to everyone for the info!
  6. I would be applying to all the major university in Alabama. I want my CRNP in family practice. Thanks for the info!
  7. I have a 3.25 GPA. Do you think I would have trouble getting into a Master's program with this GPA?
  8. Thanks to everyone for their advice. I appreciate it! I, personally, only know this to be rumors, however, others say they have proof. I am not the one going to the president, but agree that if it is true, then they should do for everyone. Thanks again for the advice!!!
  9. I've heard through the grapevine that some of the faculty at our school made special efforts for the people that failed this summer so that those people would pass. Meaning they dropped some questions off the final just for the people who failed to help some of those pass. Also it seems the faculty is going to go back through all the test taken and see if there are anymore points that can be given. The point being that they are only doing this for the people who failed. I ended up with a high B in the class and feel that if they are gonna make special efforts for some of the students, they should make it for all of us. It could mean an A for me in the class and several people could benefit from it. Thankfully our class president is going to the President of our nursing program and speaking on behalf of all of those who passed and is gonna fight for all of our test to be reviewed. Truthfully I believe they should never have given any more points to those who failed and we should all just live with the grades we have already. What do you guys think about this?
  10. I graduated ten years ago from high school and started to go to nursing school two times before it finally all fell into place. I was married and had a daughter before nursing school. Yes, it is competitive. Yes, it takes a lot of hard work. But you can do it!!!! Believe in yourself and ignore others ignorance. If this is what you want out of life....then go for it!!!
  11. I feel the same way. I am in the last two weeks of my 3rd semester and although I have made good grades so far....I worked my booty off to get them. It is hard. College is hard. But if you are motivated at whatever you want out of life, then no matter how hard it is or isn't, you can make it through. Good Luck!!!
  12. Congrats to those who got in and for those who didn't, keep your head up. They had a lower amount of spaces this year I believe because of the economy. Don't give up!!! I would be glad to help you guys in any way. I believe our class will be talking to the new admits about a mentor program at orientation, so I look forward to seeing you there. Also, you guys private message me your real info and we can keep in touch!
  13. no, no iron stomachs here....I now and will forever hate feces, vomit, blood everywhere and mucous. It's something you get used to dealing with and I can talk about anything without getting grossed out, but when you are there in that situation, you can get a little green around the gills. I knew someone who was in an OB clinical watching an epidural being placed and the sight of the needle going into the woman's spine made her pass out cold....now she is an awesome RN!!! If this is ur dream...give it a shot. You'll know in the first semester or two if you are cut out for it!! Good luck in any decision you make!!!
  14. Stay focused!! If this is what you want out of life, then don't think if you don't get in at cacc that it's over....because you can apply to several other schools or if cacc is ur only option, then retake some classes and bring up those points. I think they probably take people who have A's in all three Biology's first and ur GPA is actually a small percentage of what counts for ur points. Last year I was going through the same thing....over 700 applicants and only 70 got in to our class (that included LPNs and RNs). They just don't have the funds to have bigger classes. Also, they had a delayed program that last seven terms instead of five, but they cut that out this summer, so the class that graduates in December will be the last delayed class. The economy is bad and that sucks!!!!! New grads are struggling to find RN jobs right now. Hopefully in the next year or two the jobs will pick up. Also, someone said a lot of people are going into nursing for the wrong reason and I promise after the first semester, those people will be gone. Be prepared to experience stuff you never experienced before. There's nothing like training to be a nurse and I can't wait to graduate. So....again, good luck ladies and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you all!!!!!!!!!
  15. I heard there were over 700 applicants and only 50 got accepted. Good Luck Girls!!!!
