A bunch of suits from corporate came into my building today. Here's their 'new' plan: all the RNs have to wear one color scrub, the LPNs another, the CNAs a third, rehab something else. I was dumbfounded. We gave up all that conformity years ago because our residents didn't want everyone looking the same. I tried to explain it to these guys but they insisted that families like it better because they know who is who. We shall see how far they want to push this.

And....they want us to spend money to get a badge maker that can use a picture for identification. I told them the cheaper way would be for us all to decide who we wanted to look like and paste THEIR picture on our badge.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Seven years after you change it, they will probably change it back. Big shots have to justify their existence.

I guess it bothers me most that RN's and LPN's have different colors. How about just one color for all nurses

Haha! I pasted a picture of Olive Oyle on my badge and took one of those lable maker things and put the name on it too! Got away with it for 2 weeks before my supervisor told me that some patient wanted to speak to nurse "Olive".

The staff should be able to wear whatever they want to (scrubs) unless the corporation is willing to buy the scrubs for them. That was what happened to us once. We the entire hospital staff in a meeting) all told them we would be happy to wear whatever "they" provided. I told them I had a closet full of colors and on the salary they were paying me, I could not afford to go out and purchase all new scrubs at that time, but if they wanted to buy me 6 sets, then I could probably live with that. We also told them that they needed to provide us a uniform allowance at least twice a year in order to replace the scrubs that were worn out because there are times when they become worn, soiled and unwearable...they decided not to go through with it.

I am still waiting for the two free scrub tops the new owner said they were going to provide the employees 16 years ago.

I've already started polling the residents. So far they are all against it.

Our company has always been "color coded", although LPN and RN wear same color. Employees are given one free uniform on hire and then are given a uniform allowance twice a year. We also have a uniform company come in quarterly and they can purchase uniforms and if it is over their allowance amount it can be taken out of their paycheck over a period of time.

So...do the suits know that for any resident with dementia, it is best practice to wear "fun" street clothes, no white of any kind (look like a headless staffer), and that most folks just want their staff to look business like, no headgear etc?
