Has a employer ever asked you for your Diploma?

Published

For every schooling I have ever did including my LVN, I have never once been asked for my actual diploma or transcripts just my nursing license. Has this happen to you also? The only reason why I ask is because Im interested in doing the CA 30 unit option for my RN.

I have never been asked for any of my educational diploma's but I always take them with me just in case.

I work in a JCAHO accredited hospital, and it is not required to give them a copy of or show them your diploma. Maybe it varies from state to state, but I know that here, we don't have to.

I agree with SCnurse2010, I don't see the point of an employer needing to see it. You can't take the NCLEX if you haven't graduated, so obviously you couldn't be licensed to work if you haven't. License should be enough.

I have been asked by a few employers over the years, including my current employer (it's their policy to put a photocopy of the individual's diplomas/degrees in the personnel file).

I agree it seems kind of redundant (everyone requires that you list your school(s) on employment applications, and I assume they verify directly with the school that I graduated), but I don't see it as terribly unreasonable, either. If it makes the employer happy, no biggie ...

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

I was hired before graduation, so I didn't have a license or degree to show the HR people. The director of the program wrote a letter on my behalf indicating that I was expected to graduate when I did. After that, I just had to show my license when I received it.
