Has anyone taken the NCLEX in Sydney?

hi...

i'm looking at doing my exam in about 10 weeks in sydney. at the moment, just studying the Saunders book, hopefully this should take about a month to revise,got it 2 weeks ago, then planning on doing non-stop questions for the following 6 weeks. i registered with peason vue last week, now waiting on vermont to give them the all clear and then i'll set my date.

i wish you luck and let me know how you get on.

ps- any advice on study tips? are you going thru OGP, or by yourself???

hello susieok,

i have been studying kaplan's book, and taking the test from the books dvd. i have been concentrating on how to take the test, because i think that is a big key to the exam.

as soon as i received my att from the state board i had applied to, i set up my exam at pearson vue. i am living in melbourne, so i have to fly to sydney to take the exam, hopefully i will be able to relax and just go and get the job done!

i am interested in working in CA - USA. So i have been looking into the process, requirements etc. I was hospital trained in brisbane then did my bachelor post reg. do i need Obstetrics to be able to obtain a licence in California? The board have not answered my emails.

Also How long has the process taken?

your help would be appreciated.

hi pedar72.

i'm not 100%, but do think that you have to have obstetrics in order to be registered and have a license to practice. i did my nursing degree thru uni, finishing in 1998 in brisbane, and didn't do any hours theory or clinical in paeds and maternity/obstetrics. i had to do bridging courses thru deakin uni in both of these areas, then arrange clinical placement of 80 hrs each in both specialties to meet the US requirements. that was a big pain... took ages to find somewhere that would help me out! i wasn't in any hurry, so it took me about 18 mths to do this, of course, i'm sure you could do it in about half that if you tried. it has then taken vermont board about 3mths to approve my ed'n etc and have now been given the ok to sit my NCLEX(ATT). i'm not even sure if i want to work there anymore, but thought i'd do the leg work now, so that if i do change my mind later, i've done half the work. try pm suzanne on this forum, she may be able to help.

The US, as well as Canada, require that you have training, both clinicals as well as theory, in the required areas. And maternity is one of them, as well as pediatrcis. You will not be permitted to sit for the NCLEX from any state without having hours in an approved school of nursing. It is also required for the Visa Screen Certificate that is needed for immigration.

Suggest that any of you wishing to work in the US check out the Primer at the top of the International Forum.

i was just wondering how you got on with the NCLEX exam last week??? did you go okay? any results yet???

i've booked in for the 12th april in sydney. haven't studied heaps, but have a few weeks off soon so i can devote a lot more time.

any advice re:the test???

good luck on your exam in april! i was unable to get my results online, but my state board of nursing emailed my results to my home in the us.

i took my test on wednesday in sydney, and my paper results were at my house in arkansas on friday!

a family member rang and let me know that my results had arrived.

i passed!!! what a relief to have that over with.

if you live in sydney, it shouldn't be too stressful for you. i had to fly in from melbourne, and spend the night in sydney. the test centre is very professional, and everyone was really nice.

you have to be fingerprinted, and have your photo taken once you are checked in. i definitely recommend that you use the earplugs that are offered, it was a bit noisy.

take your time, read the questions, read all the options, breathe...and try to relax.

i did 265 questions in three hours, but looking back i wish i had taken my time.

well done! glad to you passed. i have to fly in from brisbane, but will stay couple of days afterwards to relax and have fun. especially as i'm full-on with this exam until the 12th april now. thanks for the advice and good luck with your nursing career.
