hello all,
I am planning on taking the kaplan review course but I just wanted to see if anyone else has gone thru it and could tell me if it was well worth it or not. Anyone whose taken it....could u tell me if it is better to get the NCLEX-RN complete course or just the NCLEX-RN review course. I know that the complete course offers their question bank but what is the main difference between the complete and the review? I dont quite understand because I thought the review was basically the same thing just cheaper. Please advise. Thanks alot.

I took the Kaplan review course and I think it was well worth it. The question bank is valuable along with the 7 question trainers. It gives you a lot of opportunity to answer a variety of questions and to review content as well as get used to the NCLEX type of format. I just graduated and took the NCLEX on the 13th of April. I still have not heard if I passed because my final transcripts were still not recorded when I talked to the BRN. However, the man answering the phone told me I have nothing to worry about so I am taking that as a positive answer! I will be very excited once I actually see my name with a license number on the website.
Good luck.

It's my understanding that the RN Complete has additional questions for you to do. Wasn't sure if it was worth it or not, but decided to go with it. Just placed my order last week, so haven't seen anything yet. But, I will tell you when I called to sign up for the classroom portion, they asked me where I went to school and they took off $100 from the original price. Maybe that could work for you too, worth mentioning though.

Please see my post "Comments about Kaplan" for my two cents on this subject. All the people who took it told me it did not help them for the NCLEX, and two of my friends who did the Kaplan failed the NCLEX. I say stick with Suzanne's plan for passing NCLEX. Good luck!

Took the course and wrote the exam last year, but I had been an RN for 25 years. (I took the canadian boards then). Truthfully I had an excellent grasp of the medical part of nursing. It was great for teaching me the difference in Real world verses Reality. Had I not taken it I am pretty sure I would have failed the exam. I liked the way it approached a sample question and literally did the exact way on the exam. Yes I passed with flying colors on the first try. You need to get a firm grasp on diseases and drugs and know the basics first but it is a good addition to you studies. It shows you how to make an educated guess (safety first,ABC, Maslows Hierarchy of needs) if you do not know the question not just winging it. (if you are not sure, choose C). It helps you narrow down the answers so you usually only have to guess between 2 of the answers. I did not find the questions challenging enough though when it came to the medical part which is sooooooo important like the drugs and diseases and the different groups i.e. pediatric, obstetrics, psychiatry, etc That you need to go somewhere else. hope this helps

My friend took a Kaplan course, I'm not sure which, and she failed her boards. She then studied a little on her own at home, and passed her second time.

online review kaplan- well worth it-- especially the breakdown of questions and how to 'decode' them; great questions on disk and online
used saunders a little, book and disk
also used ncsbn review but didn't find the review material to be more than a brief outline; questions were good though
mosby's online cat used by many in my class and well liked

I am taking Kaplan right now today is our 4th class and so far i am a little dissapointed. I thought they would teach us strategies on how to answer the questions and stuff like that. The only thing strategy wise that have taught us is the "Decision Tree." I thought Kaplan would give me a confidence boost, but it has done the opposite! So far we have been going over question over question. I guess i will be able to tell if it was worth taking the class (which is very expensive) when i take the NCLEX.

i definitely wouldn't spend money on kaplan. there are many good products available in the sub $50 price range. even if you bought 3 of them, you'd only be spending less than $150.00.
