Hello!
I was 37 when I decided to go back to school (9 years ago). College Algebra was my first class. I was a nervous wreck because I was about to start a long journey and I was not sure I would measure up to the challenge. So, I decided to take just that class to get "my feet wet" and start getting used to school again. Needless to say I made it through!
I recommend that you find one or two people you can study with... no more than that. Then commit to it, go to all classes, participate, and do all the homework. Bring your questions to the class... if online, email our questions to your professor.
I was so nervous the night I had to take my first exam, I had to run to the bathroom. When I came back to the classroom, I was a "pound lighter", but my nervousness had receded and was able to sit through the entire test without problems.
Focus on your goals, and keep in mind what keeps you motivated. You will get through it!
Taking it this summer. Bit nervous can't even recall how long it's been since I have taken a Math class. Took a remedial math class, intermediate algebra, math that covered broad topics (forgot the name), and statistics class (I'll probably have to take Stats over for nursing). There's no real consistency what method of learning works best for me. Taking it through My Math Lab at the college attending.
Any suggestions or feedback to survive 6 weeks and try to come up out with a grade above an 8
Appreciate any insight.
Hello, I can't give you much insight since I received a C in class but if you can create a group of classmates to study with before exams, preferably with students that are serious about their grades that will help you out a lot.
Most of my study groups played around a lot so I eventually went solo with my studying. Good luck.

Great advice!
I've taken intermediate math using My Math Lab. I honestly believe taking it online helped me. My Math lab forces you to practice questions you get wrong over and over again. I received an A in my past intermediate math class. I am taking College Algebra this summer term, starting Monday and will be using My Math Lab. PM me if you need an online study buddy!
Don't worry, college algebra is going to be a repeat of the things you took in intermediate algebra with an extra topic or 2.
Also, I forgot to mention that having the text book to study from is handy. Some nights I would read the textbook explanations and next day work on online homework.

true! College algebra isn't a new math class.
I would suggest to keep doing multiple math problems and complete all your hw as well. If you are still hunting down problems, do book examples, cover up your notes and redo those in class examples and google websites for more problems. Doing more problems will help apply what you learned.
In my program we have a quiz we take in the beginning of the semester which we need 100% to pass and continue on in the program. And thereafter we always have several math questions in our regular course exams and final included. It's mostly word description problems but using algebra. And I find that I have to go back and practice problems to freshen up a bit.
