Has anyone taken A&P II, Micro, Stats, and Nutrition in the same semester?

Published

I was wondering if anyone has taken these classes in the same semester. I know they are tough and taking them in the same semester might be crazy but i figured nursing school is going to be 100 times harder, and i believe i can do it. However, i would like to know if any one has done this and how it worked out for you if you have.

I will graduate summer 2016, but if i leave micro or any of those credits for summer i won't be able to attend the fall 2016 nursing program, instead i will have to wait until fall 2017. Which i really don't want to do, it feels like such a waste of time waiting until 2017. Any advise?

The A&P and Micro both come with labs by the way!

thanks in advance!!!

Not the exact same, but I took A&P I with lab, Nutrition, Developmental Psychology, and Stats in the same semester at my community college, while also taking micro through Portage Learning (online and at your own pace, so not quite as difficult as juggling actual class time). I also work full-time. It was HARD, but I managed As or A-'s. I had already taken Stats a few years ago when I did my undergrad degree, so I am sure that helped a bit.

It is going to feel overwhelming at times, but if you really commit yourself to it, you can do it. You just have to accept the fact that you will have close to no social life for that semester (so similar to actual nursing school). If I were you, I would try to do it this way. Waiting an entire extra year to start your nursing program just sounds like a waste of a LOT of time.

Good luck!

I am currently taking A&P 2 Nutrition and Human growth and Development and I have 2 A's & a B. But to include a math class in there it may disrupt everything. I know you want to finish faster but be smart about finishing. It's not always the fastest who are successful ( tortoise & the hare analogy)

I took that exact same load and did very well. I will add the following caveats:

I'm strong at math and had already taken a research methods/stats type class as part of my previous degree, so I wasn't coming to it "cold" and knew what to expect.

I knew what the expectations were for nutrition (soft) and I took it online (my regular college, just an online class)

My previous degree included a second major in cell biology so I had a great base going in to micro, which cut down on my study time considerably. That said, I took an advanced, 400 level micro class because it had openings and still counted as a pre-req for my BSN program.

All of the previous exposure made it a very manageable semester for me, despite the large credit load. Be honest with yourself and your abilities as well as your other life commitments so that you can do it successfully. You don't want to ruin your GPA that close to nursing school, and AP/micro performance can be weighted very heavily by nursing admission teams, so take a hard look at what grades you will need to achieve to gain admission. Best wishes.

It would be a lot for most people. I am in Micro and A+P II right now. Micro is a breeze because of the teacher but it could be a real turd class if he were different. A+P II has me studying at least 10 hours outside of class every week (20 on test weeks). I didn't have to take nutrition so I can't speak on that. Stats was easy BUT time consuming as is A+P II. If you have 0 kids, hardly work, and that's all you focus on in a semester, it's doable/

I am going to be taking Organic chemistry, anatomy, and micro all at once next fall. Right now I have a pretty heavy course load too (general chemistry, Pre-calc, pathophysiology and intermediate french). If you're not also working full time, you shouldn't have a problem.

No I'm not accepted into a nursing program yet. The reason i wanted to take these classes together was so i would be able to apply for FIUs Fall 2016 nursing program, if not i would have to wait until Fall 2017, which is what I'm going to end up doing because i also need time to prepare for the entrance exam and if i take all those classes together i feel like i won't do very well on the exam.

Thank you for replying!

New to this site so I'm not really sure how these threads work yet but thanks to everyone that replied!! Really appreciate it :)

I think that would be way to much personally. Are you already accepted into a nursing program? If not it's really important to get best grade u can in a&p and micro.

I ditto this!!!! One term, I took A&P 2, stats, psych and nutrition. I earned As in psych and A&P, a b in nutrition and dropped psych!

When I took micro, I think I only took English with it.

I really did have to put in 30 hrs/wk to pass micro and A&P1.

If you're good with math, I think it can be done. The low grade I earned in nutrition was my fault for getting lazy/slacking!!

As far as the entrance exam, I had to take the TEAS and scored 82 without studying. Again, good enough for the ADN program!

On the brighter side, As were not required to get into the ADN program I was accepted to.

Last semester I took a&p2, micro, and nutrition. A&P and micro both had labs and nutrition was all online. I got a 4.0, I have 7 kids (that's not a typo) and I work part time. It was a bit crazy but I did it and I'm glad it's done. My classes all seemed to run together in some areas which was nice for retention of the material. Good luck!

I took A&p and micro at the same time and it was absolutely awful. I didn't do well in either class.

Absolutely do not recommend it, and if you can avoid it, definitely do.

I took A&P 1, Micro, nutrition and college algebra together. It was pretty insane but I managed all As except math I got a B. I hate math though. I have 2 kids and I don't work though. If I worked there would be no way I could do it. You need to have a good study management.

I took AP II and College Chemistry together, during the summer while working full time. It was insane.

I would work fron 4:30am-11:30am, than have AP II from 12:30-2:45. I'd have a beak until 6pm, so I would study my AP II material.

From 6pm-9pm was college algebra. This I would study for a half an hour after class, and during my lunch break at work the next day.

Classes were Monday-Friday, and I worked 7 days a week the same hours, so the only day I gave myself time to relax was Sundays. Saturdays were my big study days were I'd go over all material.

Very stressful, but I managed A's in both.
