  1. You go girl! Thanks for sharing your story! I know exactly what you mean about being one of the 20 somethings..... but then feeling "old" at the same time. I think because we have a large family (and I have a lot more experience raising kids than the younger moms) I do feel older, kwim? But I am very cognitive of not being the "know it all" older mom, I can't stand those kinds of people!
  2. Got my acceptance letter today! ARCC Cambridge campus! So excited!
  3. Congrats! I didn't get a letter, but I'm north of the cities. Are you both in the cities?
  4. Yes letters being mailed today. I have plans to go to st cloud tomorrow and don't know if I should check the mail or not lol. If it's bad news it will ruin my entire weekend, kwim?
  5. Oh I've already planned on being around when the mail comes in on Saturday :)
  6. Hi everyone! I was so focused on applying to ARCC and now I can't even remember my score, but I think it was either 11.4 or 11.5. Anyways the wait is killing me too. I'm hoping to get a letter in the mail on Saturday, but it will probably be on Monday. Does anyone know if we can pop in at the campus to inquire if we got in or not? On Friday the 15th?
  7. I was going to say the same thing... take the prereqs for an ADN program through your local community college, get your BSN online and go from there :).
  8. Hi there, I'll be 40 in a few months and just dropped off my first application to nursing school last week! Yay me! I, too have a Bachelor's in another field. I started last summer by taking one prerequisite; A&P 1. I wish I would have started sooner. I just completed the prereqs for all of the programs I'm applying to. Basically I was dead set on applying for a second Bachelor's or a MSN, so I started taking the prereqs for those programs and didn't think to check the requirements for "lesser degree" programs (my mistake!). Then I started looking into the costs of those programs vs. the ADN program at my local community college (which also has an automatic online bridge program for a BSN). I quickly realized that as a back-up, I should apply to the ADN. I really really really wish now that I would have completed those prereqs first! I basically could have been in nursing school already if I had . Anyways, I am still applying to a ELMSN program, just because it's a dream program and fits my schedule really well. I did mistakenly apply to another ABSN program without having the appropriate number of prereqs done first (and was subsequently turned down). A great lesson in humility for me ha-ha! As far as taking more science courses, of course you can do it!! You said that you already have a degree and you were a honors student... you've already proven you can do well so I would get started! Here's what I took: Summer: A&P1 Fall: A&P2 Microbiology Nutrition Spring: Chem Statistics (killer!) but I still pulled an A- Psych-Intro (online through UND)* Psych-Lifespan *Had to add this class later in the semester b/c it's a prereq for the community college program, and I didn't want to wait another year to apply! UND has enroll anytime classes which are convenient. I chose NOT to CLEP Intro to Psych (as I had originally planned) because CLEP courses transfer in as a "C" grade at the community college I'm applying to. So check on that. Good luck to you! P.S. I have a very part time CNA job and also have a large family. Busy is my middle name these days :).
  9. One quick tip that really helped me on the math... I googled "multiplying binomial worksheets answers" and terms like that. Printed off and practiced a ton of questions for different parts of the math section (I'm TERRIBLE at math). That really helped me on that part of the test. Best wishes to you, you can do this!!
  10. Hey I missed the first payment option too when I first registered for a&P :). Also, what kind of learner are you? I am primarily visual, so the quizlet app worked wonders for me for memorizing. I also listened to the audio lectures from Human Anatomy & Physiology 1 | Jeri Schwerin's Anatomy & Physiology Lectures and Dr. Cizaldo (St. Scholastica/Duluth). Personally I liked the lectures from Jeri Schwerin better. I would listen to these on the way to class and again on the drive home (you can save the files individually and listen to exactly the same content you are studying in class). It really helped to cement the information.
  11. The community college should have a payment plan option, which I used and it was really nice.
  12. What about applying as a transfer student to a four year school and shooting for their nursing program? If you don't get in, which hopefully you will!
  13. Would you mind sharing the PTSD info? I was just writing about that yesterday for a psych assignment regarding my dad (rated 100% disabled for PTSD).
  14. Wow, you go girl!! That's completely awesome! Thanks so much for posting and best wishes to you!!! (And I'm sure your daughter is doing cartwheels up there for you, too! :).
  15. Hi everyone, I could really use your advice! Background: I'm an older student (39), have a large family, a prior Bachelor's in a non-nursing field, am in my last semester of pre-reqs. Here are my nursing school choices: 1) Local ADN program: ($) with a built-in bridge to BSN. Would start next February, and could start working after a year and half. Another year and half after that for the BSN. Lowest cost of all my choices. I would need to take one more class in order to apply, and could get that done before application deadline, but would need to register for it soon. 2)Online Accelerated BSN ($$$) Only 12 months (!!!) but also pretty spendy. 3)Evening/Weekend Entry-Level Master's Program ($$$), Easiest to qualify for loans and I would start at the same time as the ADN next Feb. I really think I should register for that class to be able to apply to the ADN program and have it as my main backup. I have not been impressed with the #2 program so far, they seem pretty disorganize (just during the application process so far, maybe it's better once you're in?). #3 is my dream program and it's a Master's degree which is nice. With my age I feel more time constraints to just GET GOING, but I don't want to make any rash decisions either. If you could do it all over again, what would you do? Thanks so much for any advice you can offer, I really appreciate it!!
