Has anyone taken A&P and Microbiology in the same semester????

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I just registered for this upcoming semesters classes and I wanted to take Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology together so I can apply for the nursing program after the summer semester.. Is this a bad Idea or should I just go ahead and knock it out. I'm not working at the moment and I have a lot of support from my family when it comes to "money" so I'm just trying to get some good advice from someone who has already been through this... Please Help !!!!!

I'm in your shoes and a little worried. I'm taking A&P II w/lab micro w/lab, pharmacology, and American Govt I next semester. I don't work (thank God!) but I am an army wife. So my husband is never home, we have two kids, and I have army stuff to fit in. Needless to say, it will be interesting. Crossing my fingers that I keep my 4.0 going![/quote']

I heard pharmacology is a tough class..but if you have a 4.0 I'm sure that you have great study habits and you will keep your 4.0 grade point average. Good luck to you in the upcoming semester keep me posted on how you do and I will do the same.

I will be doing the same next semester so you're not alone! As long as we work hard, I'm sure it's manageable. Good luck!

Yup, I agree with just about everything that's been said. I did A&P II and Microbiology together over a summer 10-week semester, and felt that they went well together. It was definitely more work than a normal semester, but if you know that going in and are ready to put in the time and energy, it's definitely possible to pull off an A in both (I did).

One thing I'd mention is that the lab practical exams seemed to be the biggest threat to me getting an A in both classes. This was true for my classmates too, so I'd really suggest that you pay extra attention to your labs while you're doing them (don't fall into the trap of just getting it done and getting out, make sure you understand everything that you're doing while you're doing it). Make sure to put special attention into studying for your lab practicals if you want those As; not just before the practical, but every week as you're preparing for your labs and while you're in lab doing them.

Hello, I would say you can do if you are prepared to do nothing but study for a semester. Micro is a tough class no matter who you take it with. But it is doable with lots of hard work. Good luck!

My advisor told me never to take both of these courses in the same semester because they are both quite challenging. I am glad I listened because almost everyone I know who doubled up failed either Micro or A&P. I understand wanting to get it all over with in one full swoop, but I am sure you want a relatively decent grade in each of these classes. Achieving good marks in both courses would be quite difficult if you did it in the same semester. I remember for anatomy I would begin studying one week prior to the test and my total study time totaled about 30 to 40 hours. I cant imagine adding Micro to that. However, it is not impossible to do both classes at the same time. Everyone is different. I know a few people who managed to pass both classes with a B and they took it in the same semester. They literally spent all their time studying, though. Just make sure you know you can handle the the tremendous work load. It would be be a shame to have to repeat one of the courses.

it's totally doable!! it's mainly time management based on what subject is discussed that week .. I took both in the same semester and passed both classes with As and their labs as well.

I took micro and a & p 1 while working full time. It's a lot but it is doable. I got a "b" in both classes. If u are not working right now, it should not be a problem!!!! Good luck.

One thing I've learned going through this journey of schooling, is that you have to go with your gut. If you think you can do it you can, if you think you can't, you won't.

For every person that took them together and failed, there is another that did and earned A's in both classes. It really comes down to how bad do you want it, and how much work are you willing to put in to get it.

It sounds like you will do fine if you choose to do it concurrently.

Unfortunately I'm a transfer student and was unable to register for a chemistry II class. Therefore I signed up both anatomy and microbio next semester. Do you think chem and anatomy/microbio go more hand in hand?

It depends on the teachers and how much time they can help you. I had taken both A&P (online-taken the Midterm and Final on campus-Summer & Fall 2010) ad Microbiology (on campus-Fall 2011) and received an "A." I completed these classes while working fulltime, children and have a family. Mainpoint: It takes a lot of organizations, priorties, and devotion to suceed. Since you already have families who are supporting and you are not working-you should take the course just remember to pace yourself-find some kind of techniques to help you in remembering the material before you go on to the next chapter or subject. I attended Central AZ College when I took these three classes.

You will be fine-Microbiology is a lot interesting and fun. It is way easier than A&P.

No. Chemistry (taken Summer 2011), A&P (Summer and Fall 2010) and Microbiology (Fall 2011) are different. Chemistry is more of the table of elements, A&P are more of and about bone structure within the body, and Microbiology is mainly about bacterias and where they come from. You don't really need to take Chemistry, but that depends on the school/college that you go to. Usually chemistry class is a pre reqs for A&P Part 1.

Everyone is going to give you a different answer to your question. Some are going to say yes, you can take both classes & do well & some are going to say no, it's no wise to take both at the same time. Bottom line is that only YOU know what YOU are capable of. You know your limits. My friend took A&P 2 & Micro together this past semester. She received an A in A&P 2 lab and an A in the lecture. In Micro she received a B in the class & a C in the lab. She said Micro is more challenging. Everyone is different. Think long & hard about it. You'll make the best decision. Listen with your heart, you will understand. :)
