Has anyone taken A&P and Microbiology in the same semester????

Published

I just registered for this upcoming semesters classes and I wanted to take Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology together so I can apply for the nursing program after the summer semester.. Is this a bad Idea or should I just go ahead and knock it out. I'm not working at the moment and I have a lot of support from my family when it comes to "money" so I'm just trying to get some good advice from someone who has already been through this... Please Help !!!!!

man I did that last spring it was hell cuz I had anatomy 2 with lab which is nothing compared to part 1 but it can be done I got an A in both lecture in lab it just SUCKS really bad.All I can say is STUDY STUDY AND STUDY.

I hope that my professors are good because it will be very hard for me if I have a hard professor and difficult material.. I checked them out on ratemyprofessor.com and it looks like I will be okay.. thanks for commenting on my post.

I highly recommend using RateMyProfessors.com to read reviews of your potential instructors. I've found it to be a pretty good representation of what I'm in for if I sign up for their classes. It's also helped me to avoid some of the bad ones!

Best of luck to you next semester! Get a planner, write down all your assignments, tests & study time in it. Breaking it up into manageable chunks is the key to success. You can do it! :D

I took them together and I thought it was one of the smarter things that I've done (ok, that's not a super long list, but anyway).

I just thought that they went well together because many of the things you learn (especially at the beginning of A&P) mirror what you are learning in micro. So it both helps to reinforce what you're learning and makes it easier to study. Does that make sense?

OMG Yes! What Soprano said is so true. You def want a great teacher for both courses. Check word of mouth, ASK the head of the science department (they are typically surprisingly candid) and look at the websites.

I didn't do this my first semester and got possibly the worst professor I've ever had for A&P I (and I have another bachelor's, so I've had plenty of instructors). We only had ONE lab the entire course even though we begged for more.

For A&P II I looked at websites, asked the head of my program, and solicited word of mouth from other classmates. I hit the LOTTO with my A&P II professor. That guy LOVED teaching, LOVED the subject, and LOVED helping students. I credit him with helping me to really have many of my systems down when it came to my first semester of nursing school.

I just took both plus Patho and Developmental Psych and got straight A's. It depends so much on your Micro teacher, mine was awesome and made it really fun and I loved it! Good Luck!!!

Yes it makes a lot of sense..I was thinking about that as well. I heard that A&P ll is harder than l so I will be better to take that class by itself in the spring/summer semester...

I took Anatomy in summer and physiology and micro in Fall. I am not working either and got full support from my family. I got A for all 3 subjects. But, still, I do not recommend taking all three together. Take only 2 in a semester. It helps to do Anatomy first, followed by phisiology. Knowing the structure (Anatomy) well helps to better understand the functioning (Physiology). Besides, I found Physiology and Microbiology together involves a hell of a lot of working. Competition is high for getting in to Nursing School. It is recommended to take your time and get A for those subjects, than being in a hurry and regretting.

Yes I totally agree with you about rushing the three.. I'm not going to rush it, I know its going to be a challenge to take those science classes together but I'm a good studier so I think I will be okay with the classes..

At our school you couldn't have taken all three together in any case because you had to take A&P I prior to A&P II. I didn't even know that some schools had anatomy and physiology as separate classes (as the poster ahead of you was saying).

Yes, in my school, you can either take Anatomy and Physiology as separate subjects OR the option of taking A&P I and A&P II. Most go for the option of separate subjects because as I said, it's easier to understand the functioning very well when you know the structure.

It's all a matter of instinct. If you feel you are capable, go for it. People told me not to do Physio and Micro together. But I did it and got A for both. So if you trust yourself, go for it.

I'm in your shoes and a little worried. I'm taking A&P II w/lab, micro w/lab, pharmacology, and American Govt I next semester. I don't work (thank God!) but I am an army wife. So my husband is never home, we have two kids, and I have army stuff to fit in. Needless to say, it will be interesting. Crossing my fingers that I keep my 4.0 going!
