Has Anyone Read the Echo Heron Books?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I was wondering if anyone has read any of the books written by Echo Heron. She is a gifted writer, and I have loved her books (Intensive Care, The Story of a Nurse; Condition Critical, The Story of a Nurse Continues). In these books, she chronicles the trials and tribulations of nursing school as well as her 20 years of practice in CCU and ED units. Although her non-fiction books are awesome, I've heard that her fiction lacks the pizazz that her other books have. Has anyone read these books? What did you think of them?

She is very critical on management though. If anyone knows why she's so critical of management, could you please post about it? I'd like to know about the "other side of the coin", as I'd like to consider a post in management one day.

Not to give it away, **STOP READING IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPOILERS**

But she quit nursing after her second book and went to go live on an island on Montserrat. Even though she has written a 3rd non-fiction book (Nurses on the Front Line - or something like that), I don't believe she has returned to Nursing. Does anyone know what she's doing now? Did she ever return to nursing?

If you'd like a great read about Nursing, I highly recommend her books. She's a very gifted writer and I've enjoyed them very much. I'm just wondering if other people have read them, especially other nurses and what they thought.

I know it sounds silly but a dream of mine is to meet her someday.

This is not silly! When you go meet her, let me know and I'll come, too!

If you check out her website, there are lists of engagements she will be attending AND you can email her. If she is speaking at your state convention, maybe you should try to go. Maybe you could meet her there.

You are welcome for the link . . . I was curious a few months ago and did a google search.

Oooooooooooh, I can't wait ! Checked out her website (THANX, Steph!!!) and read her brief biography and about her books... then went staight to Amazon.com and ordered her first three (non fiction).

Should be here in a couple days.... I can hardly wait ! Haven't read anything in a long while, and this looks like something I will truly enoy ! Whooooot ! :D

Jnette . . . . . you will love those books. I read the first one about her experience in nursing school the summer before I started nursing school. Scary . . . .

You will laugh out loud and cry. I can't wait until you read about the nurse who names her breasts . . . oh, but I can't spoil the whole thing for you so I'll stop. But it is so so funny . . . .

Hurry hurry hurry whoever is delivering Jnette's books.

I can't waaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiit !!! :D

I'm so ready to read again, and I just LOVE a good writer !

I'm just so picky about what I read... it has to be something that really interests me... and therefore usually non-fiction.

I just know I'm going to love her books.

I have a couple of her non-fiction books that I've read and was going to put in my yard sale (decluttering here). If anyone wants them, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to send them to ya instead! :)

Ah GEEESH !!!

NOW I read this ! Of course right after I placed my order with Amazon...

Heh..... oh well... nothing like a brand new book. :D

I read Echo's first two non-fiction books when I was 18 and it solidified my thoughts on nursing. Twelve years later I'm working on Pre-reqs and finally headed towards becoming an RN. I think I'll go back and read those books a second time. I'm sure I'll be inspired again.

Thanks for the link Steph!! I have spent time doing searches on her through altavista and Google. Not ONCE did that website come up. Thanks for posting it!

Boy, I'd love to meet her for coffee one day...

Manna--if the books are in decent condition, donate them to the library. I do that w/ a lot of my books; get a tax write-off, they get good stuff (including a large print version of one of Echo's books), I'm happy.

Now there's a thought, Prm - thanks for the idea. I guess I just had forgotten that libraries take donated books (but now that I think of it, my son's private school used to take book donations for their rather small library... I'll check there first)! :)

Hey Steph, does she live in your part of the world?

I have several of her books, liked the non-fiction better than the fiction.

Check your email.

jnette, you WILL love the books. Mine are dog-eared from multiple readings. I read them whenever I want a good bellylaugh! She does a great job telling it like it is, but with a flair only she can produce.
