Yesterday I had an EGD to find cx. of chronic dyspnea and occ. diff. swallowing food.
They found a small hiatal hernia. I was half asleep when the Dr. spoke to me. Did anyone have a small hiatal hernia and have difficulty catching your breath? Did it end up getting better after certain RX?(I'm on Prevacid BID)
I just hate this feeling of not being able to catch my breath.
Did they put you on lifting restrictions? I usually take lift weights--mind you I'm a wimp most I can lift is 25#'s or so.

I was not diagnosed with a hiatal hernia but I had severe reflux that necessitated surgery. I had the same symptoms you are having, especially the dysphagia. I was up to taking Prilosec 4x/day, and it didn't even touch me. I really feel for you. My quality of life has greatly improved since my surgery. ((hug))

I'm just curious--why lifting restrictions? Does this make the hernia worse? Which type of hiatal hernia did they say you have (if I recall correctly, there are two types).

I have a hiatal hernia and GERD. I am 5 foot tall and had babies that were > 9 lbs. I think that caused the HH. Anyway, the best thing to help me was losing weight. I don't know if it is an issue for you but for me even 10-20 lbs made a tremendous difference. Unfortunately, I gained it back and am headed for the Dr. this morning for more meds since I was able to stop taking them before.

I don't have a hiatal hernia, but I also have GERD. I've been on meds for 4 years now. Some work better than others. If prevacid doesn't give you the relief you need, talk to your doc about other PPIs. You may also want to raise the head of your bed (takes some getting used to).
