I contacted Deaconess yesterday to get more information on their program. I was informed that I could not just do the practical nursing component that I had to sign an agreement for the the two year program. I feel the LPN would be better for me now as a distance program while I am waiting for acceptance into the the local RN program next fall. Has anyone only completed the LPN portion? What are the consequesnces if you don't complete the RN? I am taking all my prerequisites at the local community college to get them out of the way. The deadline for admission in January is sometime in September.
Can someone also explain what is done when you go on campus the first time. What all is covered? What are they expecting out of you?
OPALM... You said that you just finished the PN part of the program, are you going on for your ASN with them? I was wondering if I could do the PN part and then work for a while and get my ASN thru them a year or so after I finish or even do it thru somewhere else.
I was very happy to find out that the school was accrediated since 1991 and I talked to the Ohio BON and they were fine with the school. I called the Missouri BON and left a message for a lady, she called me back Friday but I haven't been able to call her back yet. (I will tomorrow though)
Thanks!!!!
Trish

I suggest you call Deaconess and ask about the current policy for completing just the PN, completeing the PN and taking time off.
When I enrolled the options were to complete only the PN and leave, complete the PN take a leave of absence for three months to study for PN boards and then return to complete the remainder of the ASN or thirdly start and go non stop until the completion of the ASN. Since I enrolled I heard (only a rumor no facts do I have) the school supposedly no longer allows just the PN completion. Again, I don't know this as fact so I strongly suggest you speak with the school directly. I am finishing my ASN with another school.
As with anything, make sure you know the program you enroll in is what you ultimately want.
Good luck with your decision.

I'm curious as to exactly what the facts are on this. Could they really prevent you from taking the state boards. If their curriculim satisfies the MSBON for practical nurse level, I wonder just how DCN could deny students access to taking the nclex.
Just curious. Maybe Opalm is right in that what they are doing is making you exit out of the program first and reapply after you take the nclex.
BTW, where are all those excited new DCN students. I thought there would be more updates from them and how they are making out in the program.

Hi Mona,
I have been wondering the same...we had at least a handful of DCN students accepted for the Fall on this board, but I have not seen anyone in months.
I am 4 weeks into my first Semester and loving it. I just took my first NR163 exam and got a B... So far I am really impressed with the format and level of expectation of this course. I feel like I will be well prepared with all they are teaching us. Now that I know what format the tests are given in I hope to pull an A on the next exam... :)
I am trying not to stress over the Basic Skills Validation at the end of the semester...I start working with my instructor next week.
Take Care,
Cheri

Cheri,
I am so glad you are making out so well with DCN. Your right about getting to know the format of the exams. It will get better once you take a few. How do you like the chats? Are there many people in your class? I am in NUR 171 and we have a large class so it makes the chats a little difficult to follow.
Keep in touch.
