Has anyone applied to Cape Fear's Nursing Program for 2012?

Hi I applied to Cape Fear's Program for August 2012 term. I know that the application deadline just recently ended, however, I was just wondering if anyone had heard any news through the grapevine about applicant pool/point count?

Hi kbk1985,the study book is the book you'll need to do the practice questions to study from. The disk is to teach you how to do the problems. Are the syllabi ready in the bookstore? Here's the study guide we got in NUR111 for math.

Hi thanks so much J. There was no book so I'm gonna email a teacher and see what's up. All that came with our required calculating set was a cd and little study book. Not sure if that's what we are suppose to have?! I'm definetly starting to study the math first thing!

Scanned from a Xerox multifunction device001.pdf

What should we expect on Monday?!?! Anyone get the syllabus yet?

I got the syllabus this morning, in the first module it focuses on the ADN policies and course syllabus. The second module has us reading from:

Kozier and Erb: chapters 4 and 5

Perry: Ethical Decision Making, page 794

and Townsend: Chapter 5

If you want to get a head start on reading, refer to the calendar they handed out during orientation. The units/modules are not covered in order. Whatever unit is referenced on your schedule, refer to that unit's reading and focus on the objectives while reading. I wish I had known how to navigate through the syllabus that first week of class. I was a nervous wreck trying to get organized...very overwhelming. Good luck!

Just checking to see how you are all handling the school year!

Hi olliesmom,So far still hanging in there. I was going to reach out to you about the unit we just started unit 8 with mrs Murray its on sleep pain care and hygeine. I'm a little wOrried bc she flys through the material and aside we need to know the classes of pain drugs. I have tried to read and understand them but am completely lost and overwhelmed. I don't get the analgastic vs antagonist and agonist any advice????

I'm sorry it took so long I get back to you! I have to say I always did the worst on her tests, it is a lot if memorization the first year so repetition is key! Start learning the drug classes now, it will help throughout! Try to recognize the endings in the classes (example beta blockers end in -olol) and then know they will all have similar actions and side effects. Perseverance! You'll get there!

Thanks O! Any advice for the first final exam?!

For the final, you will need to know detailed info..it is not a basic information test. There will be questions from those little boxes, drugs, you name it.Review everything, its all fair game unfortunately. Our final (2nd year) is Dec 10th. Good luck!

Ditto! Good luck!! The first final by far is the easiest of all the finals, so make sure you get a good base of knowledge and do study the "little stuff" it will be there!

Thanks y'all!! Made it through first semester. Any advice on second I hear that's when the most people are lost?!

Get into a study routine and stick with it!! It is hard because of the mini-sessions you will have a test practically every week, along with clinical and paperwork. It is daunting and can be overwhelming. You have to figure out what works best for you.

FYI- There are 45 students total in the final semester 2nd yr about to graduate in May. Around 38-39 of those are from the "original" 80 students and the rest are returners. Yes, students start dropping like flies. Some fail out, some drop out. Its such a tough program.... But you can do it!!
