Check with the NC BRN. If they say it is possible, then check with your nursing school. Be aware that if it is allowed by the state, that does not mean your nursing school will cooperate, some do not.

may i ask you about how many credits, or classes/clinicals you had already taken when you challenged the lvn boards? (by the way thank you so much for your time!)
One semester away from graduation from a BSN program. Had submitted paperwork earlier, but school 'lost' it and I had to start over.
hi! caliotter3. do you know if you can appeal the board's decision in case if they decide not to allow someone to challenge the NCLEX?
Worth a try, but only if it is something kind of obvious. I found out that one of my employers did not respond, (they said they had no idea of who I was), but it turned out I did not need that amount of employment for my application. Theoretically, I could have provided pay stubs to prove my employment. I have found when dealing with the Board, it is possible to get someone on the phone who seems to have problems understanding, so yes, I would think you could defend your case, provided it is a good one. Hopefully you will not run into problems. Good luck.
oh! i see thanks for the tip! just out of curiosity, if you challenged the nclex and passed, does your lvn license gets mark or issued in a different way so that its so obvios that the nclex was challenge?
No. You get the same kind of LVN license that everyone else gets. The only way that an employer will know that you are not a graduate of an approved LVN school is when you indicate that on your application for employment. Although literally all employers specify that you have to be a graduate of an approved program, I have never been denied employment due to not having graduated from an approved LVN program. When I reply to the education questions on apps, I provide my BSN education years of completion, but indicate that I am not a graduate and/or do not hold the BSN degree. So far, no problem.
niece! thank you replying to all my q's i really appreciate it!
No problemo. That's one of the reasons this site exists.
