Link to a sobering video. Daniel is a physician from Uganda and currently works with me in Afghanistan. He is working to save money and working toward a MPH via distance learning. He hopes to return to Uganda and push for changes in the health care system. Especially in the areas of preventative medicine and education.

I find it rather difficult to imagine that when I come to work, five people will die because there are not enough of us to provide the care these people needed.

"Hard times" is really putting it mildly! As bad as our health care situation is in the U.S., we don't face things like this doctor does, every day.
Off topic ever so slightly ~ GilaRN, would you share how you came to work in Afghanistan? I am VERY interested in medical missions (Mercy Ships, Operation Smile, etc.) and am wondering the best way to go about getting prepared for doing them. Example ~ Operation Smile wants 2 years of OR experience. Now, I understand that "battle conditions" require experience ~ so I don't fault them. I am just curious about your take on getting prepared, recommendations and experiences, and how you got to be where you are today.
I am a new nurse :) ~ so anything you can share would be soooooooooooo appreciated! Thank you!
