Hard to get into Nursing school in RI

Published

Hello Allnurses readers,

Living in RI, I have experienced how difficult it is to get into nursing school. I have all my prerequisites and trying to apply to Nursing school is hard.

Don't give up! Keep on applying there are so many options out there for you. Even if you can't get in one now...try maybe going the LPN route and work your way up from there. Other Than that, just keep applying you'll get there.

What is your point? It is hard. Did you think it would be easy? What does "hard" even mean? It isn't hard or easy..it is what it is and you either take the pain and do it or you quit. It doesn't matter if it is "hard" if you want to do it. You just do it. It is "hard" to quit smoking, but does that mean you shouldn't quit? DO or DO not.

Thanks I appreciate your encouragement.

I think you a bit rid. I thought this site was for everyone to express what they feel within limits in regards to nursing, next time yon can keep your comments to yourself if you don't have nothing encouraging to say.

the reason why I said what I did in regards to nursing school, was because I applied twice to a nursing school in RI , and my gpa is 3.4

Where did I say you couldn't express how you feel? You ask if it is hard to get into school, but you don't define what "hard" means. What are you looking for? What is your question? I am a nurse with 8 years experience. You may have a different idea of what hard is than everyone else. Now you give more information that you applied twice and did not get in. So it sounds like you answered your own question that it is "hard" to get in. Maybe you are the expert because you have more information. Do you think everyone is going to be "encouraging" about everything you say? You ask a question that cannot be answered then you are upset with the reply. Good luck.

This site is for everyone to express what they feel within the limits of the Terms of Service even if we don't like or agree with what someones is saying.

Is this a RN or LPN program?

Nursing school is very competitive these days. Many schools have waiting lists that are 2 to 3 years long. IN some areas of the country, like the west coast, a GPA of 3.4 is under the requirements for admission. Some schools have gone to a point system and allow students to retake classes until they get 4.0 and top points. Some use TEAS some use SAT but it is all the same nonetheless...nursing is VERY competitive right now. MANY of the ADN programs are overwhelmed with applicants.

You should be applying to more than one school. When my daughter recently applied, during her senior year in high school, she applied to 6 schools. 4 university BSN (3 state schools and one private) and 2 ADN programs (one state one private) She did get accepted to a couple and is starting in the fall.

Look into other options. Don't rely on one schools decision to define you.

I am not the expert, but thank you and have a nice day.

Thanks Esme, I won't be making anymore comments on this site, I will keep reading and looking for advise. Have a nice day.

I am not saying I like or dislike. The question was is it hard to get into nursing school in RI. What exactly does that mean? Do you know? are you understanding my confusion? The OP and I may have totally different views of "hard". It is impossible to answer. The next post stated they had applied two times and not got in. So is that "hard" or is that "easy". I have no idea. If the OP never wants to post again because of that then so be it. Are people really this thin skinned and expect shiny happy people every time they post? I am not being rude I am trying to understand the question.

I have learned that yes, some people want everything to be rosy. They want life to be easy and everyone to agree with them. Perhaps windsurfer you should have said yes it is hard and I can't believe it. It really should be easier. I think that is the response the OP is looking for.

Yes, OP, it is hard to get in. And it should be. Nursing is a hard profession. You have people's lives in your hands. This profession is quite literally life or death. It should be hard. Not everyone should be able to do it. Better to find out now than after too much money is spent.

Windsurfer, i guess the word hard could mean a lot of things. But what I was trying say it that it's very competitive to get into nursing school In this state. I am 41 years old and a mom of 4 kids and I work overnight as a CNA, I have being at this for years but as other people had said is to apply to different schools . I apologize for the confusion.
