Happy New Year to allnurses!

Published

Even though I don't work as a Nurse since I retired last Spring, and am basically an antisocial recluse, I still feel as though I can contribute something to society. I enjoy giving information and support here when I can, and I enjoy  communicating with other Nurses.

In my rural neighborhood, I perform a community service by policing the road that runs through the valley for litter. I paint signs that are meant to inform and/or entertain the locals and keep the rebels in check.

For example, I let those who paint graffiti on the bridges in the valley know that it's not appropriate:

And though it's not exactly a New Year's resolution, I'm always working on trying to clean up my own act.

A Very Happy New Year to my favorite online community!

My 2021 resolution is to make myself a priority for 1 hour everyday.

Simple, straightforward.  My goal is better health, both mental and physical.

I need a lot of work. ?

When I would get upset at work, or anywhere else for that matter, and start mentally bashing those who I held responsible for my psyche pain, I would sometimes mentally recite The Lord's Prayer.

The part that goes "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" especially gives me cause to pause. Do I want to be forgiven of my wrongs in the same way I forgive another?

Oh WOW, I L❤️VE this!  Thanks for the inspiration @Davey Do

The thing that impresses me most about this allnurses community is the ability the insight and desire to be better beings.

We are, pretty much, self governing. And, using Thomas Jefferson's concept, "How can we be trusted with the governing of others when not trusted with the governing of ourselves?" (possibly paraphrased)

As Nurses we are, or have been, trusted with the governing of others. It does my heart good to read thsee posts by the allnurses' populace.

Happy New Year, Davey and all! ? I don't make resolutions either, but I also recognize that I need to take a little more time for self-care. I have started taking the yoga classes tjay my employer offers for free via Webex during the week, they are great! I think I am going to look for an in-person class when the pandemic wanes.

One of my good friends from the comic website, Oscar Mars, had a great New Year's episode on his series "Basic Ideas". He loaded a copy of it for me and gave me permission to post it here:

Something interesting, to me if no one else, is the different artists' Father time characters:

Jerry King's Father Time carries a scythe whereas Oscar Mars' carries a staff with an hourglass.

I did a little research: "Father Time (Also known as David Dunnett) is a personification of time. ... The wings and hourglass were early Renaissance additions and he eventually became a companion of the Grim Reaper, personification of Death, often taking his scythe."

I like Father Time with the staff.

I know we are all mortal, but the new year is about new beginnings, not a reminder of our future death.

How about a Clerical Collar Clock, Kitiger?

No, I'd rather not joke about that which is holy.

Of course Kitiger. I meant no disrespect.
