Happy LVN/LPN

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I am a new grad LVN and was wondering where all the happy LVNs are working. Through reading the threads on this site, LTC LVNs appear to be highly stressed. I am trying to decide on a specialty in which I will not end up hating my job. I'd love to hear your comments! :)

Im only 3 weeks in, just got a full time position today in my LTC on a long term unit I also worked in this nursing home as a CNA while in school. Last week I floated up to the rehab unit  a ton of work felt lost every second. Depends were you go and how comfortable you feel/get.

Some more advice try to fit in if you can alot of new grads come in and rock the boat they think they are the second coming of Nightingale they usually don't last or worse get promoted to managment.

Good luck! Trust in yourself;)

Being a nurse in general is stressful. Just thinking about the amount of responsibility compared to the amount of pay is sickening:eek: But, I do love being a nurse. I am a new nurse with just over a years experience, and my first and current job is at a LTC facility. I love the residents and the bond that I have formed with them. I like being busy, and practicing my skills, but sometimes I wish that I had a job at a clinic. I would love the good hours and calmer atmosphere, but then again, the grass is always greener, isn't it?

Specializes in Allergy and Immunology.

Im an LPN in Allergy and Asthma clinic, there are times when its stressful (shot reactions). But its pleasant for the most part. I think its a easy job. Im not going to say I love it because im back in school to get my ADN. And when I finish this December after passing boards, sadly I will be moving onto brighter pastures. Im just not passionate about it, it was just the first job I took after LPN school that was not a LTC facility. Although the pay is lower, so is the stress. A bonus is I dont feel like my license is on the line.

I work for a locked mental health facility and I love it!

I thought of psych nursing as an LPN when I graduate, but we never had a psych class in the program. Wretched Nurse, did you have psych in LPN school? Im confused why the boards are what they are for LPN. We have the same OB as the RN program, but no psych. Where in this entire country can an LPN get hired to be Nurse in Labor and Delivery or Post Partum?

I am a happy LTC LPN. Sure, there is stress involved in LTC, but any field of nursing has stressful moments.

I look at it like this.. I am an imperfect person working in an imperfect environment, so I always do my very best and I do not kick myself if things are not 100% perfect. One time I forgot to put a paper in a patient's chart, well, someone else did it. I was so busy that I had forgotten to hole punch it and stick it in.

We didn't have any training in psych... Too bad! I've worked in psych for many years, though. I volunteered and then worked at a homeless shelter and all of the supportive housing units from 1997-2000 Recently, I worked for a large mental health provider for several years as a nurse. Some of my family members have significant mental health issues so psych training was kind of built into my life the day I was born! (laughs)

I had a mental health course with clinical in my program. After hearing stories from my instructor about the several incidents in which she was thrown across the room by a patient, mental health nursing scared me to death. I also did not enjoy the clinical too much.

I work for an interesting company...We have independent living duplexes, apts., then assisted living, then LTC when it gets to "that point". We also have an AWESOME rehab for when our "indepenent" patients fall and break a hip! :) I LOVE my job...I work the Rehab floor. It is SUPER busy, and it only holds 12. It is just me and one awesome C.N.A. on the floor. I get everything from hip/leg/pelvic fx., to bowel resections, to very fragile cardiac patients, ALS patients, etc...Ya never know. I love going to work every day, because the smile on my patient's face lets me kow I am appreciated. I have been a nurse for 14 yrs., and this is absolutely my favorite job ever. I have done Med/Surg, Home health, MHMR, Wound Care, LTC, and CNA teaching. Even better, this company APPRECIATES the nurses. We are treated very well, and have great benefits and pay! AND we are a non profit! :)
