about half my class is failing first semester in an ADN program.

The main problem that I see that people have are lack of critical thinking skills. A lot of those who are failing are the younger kids with the minimum requirements to get into the program. Those who have the A's have a minimum bachelors degree and have been actively continuing their education while waiting to get into a nursing program. e.g. taking Developmental Psychology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Sociology, Argumentation, Philosophy, and Logic.

If you can and have time and would like to be ahead before even entering a program, I suggest you pick up some Nursing Process books. Our school uses the Roy Adaptation Model. Some schools use other theorists.

If you would like a sample of the first semester module of my school, send me a PM. It'll give you insight about what's expected of you and just how tough it is.

edit: Try and take a medical math or dimensional analysis math class. you don't want to fail out of your nursing program because you can't pass a simple math test.

I COMPLETEY feel your pain on this one!!! Nursing school and WoW are pretty much mutually exclusive.

Hehe.. I can see Im not alone and I havent even started the nursing program yet! I miss WOW already and its another 2 years!! :(

good advice thank you. That is actually what I was planning on doing. I am currently working on my preq for the ADN program and on top of my preq courses I am taking a math class which is not required to get in because I know that my math skills are not that strong. I am applying for the program next year and if i do not get in(I HOPE I DO) I am planning on continuing and taking more classes that will help with my nursing degree.

While the advice to take some of the ADN courses early is admirable, for some of us that is not possible. In schools local to me, you cannot take nursing courses without being in the nursing program....then it is four back-to-back semesters!

Our pre-reqs include the A&Ps and Micro (prefaced by college Chem) along with the other mentioned courses. One thing I am going to do for myself....

My long term goal is an MSN. The RN-to-MSN course (at the local 4 yr school) requires Statistics and Human Nutrition, which are offered at the local CC. While I wait for my acceptance to Nursing for my ADN/RN (apps by end of Fall Semester for Summer start), I will get a headstart by taking these classes. My mother struggled with statistics and I have heard it is tough for those not well inclined mathematically. (For me, math is easy :D) So for those of us with a little 'down time', looking forward may give you a good way to keep your skills honed!

LOL I am down to one day a week of WoW, and it's been ok. RL is good sometimes. I didn't really have time to keep up with it anyhow, and I have never been a raider. AND LOL at how this came up in a nursing forum hah!:typing
