Are the positions at Baylor real?
One thing I could tell you about the downtown Fort Worth area hospital is that they probably are overstaffed at this time. I work in the ER at Baylor SW (not as a nurse, I am a student right now.) and we closed our L&D area at this hospital. Most of the nurses went to the downtown hospital on 8th Ave. Could not tell you about any of the other Baylor hospitals in the area however.

Well I didn't have time to read them all, but here are two of my faves: Afterism (n) - A concise, clever statement you don't think of until too late. Q-Tips, if you aren't supposed to put them in your ears, then what the heck are they for?!?

about half my class is failing first semester in an ADN program.
LOL I am down to one day a week of WoW, and it's been ok. RL is good sometimes. I didn't really have time to keep up with it anyhow, and I have never been a raider. AND LOL at how this came up in a nursing forum hah!:typing

TCCD nursing classes-Apply to program in Aug-Sept period?
That is too funny. I sat towards the back in lab. I had a friend in class that dropped it about a week before the class ended. I have dark hair and wear scrubs a lot because I teach during the day. I took the class from 6-8 and the lab from 8-10 at night.

I took Chem at TCC south campus. That class was rough, and the summer is not a good time to take it. I think I would have been better off taking it in the fall.

Well I ended up getting a high C in Chemistry I really hated that class. I didn't do well on the final and I was borderline B/C before that. OH well.

Well I guess I am going to apply this week. I signed up for the TEAS and the information session. I know chances of getting in are slim, but I need to try anyway. Anyone with me?

Breach of patient confidentiality?
Thank you for this reply. The problem is, he told her that the mother accessed this information before speaking to anyone (I assume it was the girlfriend's idea) This is how I understood it as going down. He said, "she was just trying to do us a favor." I understand that this has not harmed the child in any way. I just kind of equating it to this: when I worked in the pharmacy at a local hospital, and my friend comes in to the ER, I can't just log in to the system to see how my friend is doing and what is wrong with them. It is none of my business. Just as I felt this child's shot record was none of this school nurse's business. Thanks for all of the thoughtful replies. I am going to send a link to this forum to the my friend so she can make her decision from there Chelle

Breach of patient confidentiality?
I found more information on this website.. It is protected by law. The question is, what can we do about it?

Breach of patient confidentiality?
Hello again, Let me provide a little more information. The school nurses throughout the state of Texas are able to access student shot records through a registry system that the parent consents to when their child begins taking their shots, while the child is an infant. This is a link to the registry information http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/immtrac/default.shtm I would think this would be protected under HIPPA, simply because it is a medical record and the nurse should only be accessing it on a need to know basis. The student is not in that school district, so I assume this school nurse has no need to know. The main problem is that we do not know this woman's name, but I am sure the vaccine registry would have a record of who has accessed this information. I appreciate all of the replies. We are trying to decide what/if she can do anything. Thanks again! Chelle:heartbeat

Breach of patient confidentiality?
Hello all, I am a prenursing student. I have a friend who is seperated from her husband currently. She is not divorced yet, but her husband is living with his pregnant girlfriend. Here is my question. The pregnant girlfriend's mother, who lives in a completely different city, has accessed my friend's daughter's shot record. My friend's daughter is about to start kindergarten. The girlfriend's mother is a school nurse in a different city. If you are familiar with Texas, the mother (my friend) lives in Fort Worth, and the person who looked up the child's shot record lives in Big Spring. There was no reason for this school nurse to look up my friend's daughters shot record. The child will not be attending that school. We don't even know this woman's name. All we know is my friend went to her husband's house to pick up her daughter a few days ago, and he told her that the school nurse (pregnant girlfriend's mother) looked up her shot record and informed them that she needs 3 shots before school starts. My opinion is, this is a breach of patient confidentiality, because the school nurse has no direct contact with or need to know basis to access this record. What is your opinion, and is there anything that my friend can do? She is quite upset about the whole thing. Thanks for any/all advice! Chelle
