I think it's more what's in our heads instead of what's on our heads. I've often thought about this, too!
Just last week I debated whether to color again or just let 'er go.....gray. Well, at the last minute I ducked into Wal-Mart for my favorite brand. Ho, hum, such is life.
I really have to say, though, that the grays I have are a pretty gray. I guess I'm just not ready to be a "pretty" gray haired lady.
I'll tell you what.....if you do it, I will, too! :)

Thanks Sister ! Let's do this together ! Actually at this point I am not even sure what my hair color is !!! It's been so long ! haha
But I am going to make up my mind and do this...I don't want to be 65 with dark brown hair....I just want to look natural. I suppose I will need to use more makeup in order for me not to look so washed out.. whatever...
Let's just be FREE ! thanks again,

fogot to say, it could just be something in that particular brand, could have been a bad batch etc... i would have consulted my hairdresser right away to see what they thought, as they see a bit of this. there are sensitive brands and ones that are water based that are usually less irritationg too, or you can have foils done, rather than a whole hair colour, as no colour goes on your scalp with foils.
Your gray just looks more obvious against your dark hair. You could go lighter so they don't show as much.
Almost two years ago I asked my stylist to frost my dark brown hair gray!! I was so tired of the maintenance and those danged gray roots!! She refused (thank you, Tracy!!) and now I get foil wraps cuz I'm BLONDE!!
Still have maintenance, dangit...but I LOVE my hair :)
My vote: If you don't want the gray, foil the color you want in, and let your gray be untouched.
If you think you'd rather just let the gray come, foil your hair the color that you are phasing out. Gradually, doing less and less.
And maybe cut it short to speed things along.
Or..... maybe foil heavily a light color, so that when the gray does come in, it's not a big deal.

You're on! Let's just hope we have the fortitude to carry through. Those grays can be intimidating.....
Wish us luck!
I have the exact oppositie problem lol. I am getting very grey especially in the front. Went out and bought some colour and had no clue what to buy so there it sits in the cupboard untouched. It is the wash out kind...then I got as far as a salon to ask about having my grey covered and chickened out for making that appointment. The gal there said something about foiling...and of course, I have no clue what that means either lol. So, for now, I am making the best of my grey because the last thing I want is to go pay someone $65.00 to colour my hair and then me end up wishing I had stayed grey. As for the allergic reaction...I am allergic to everything so that too is a reason I have yet to colour. My mom had a terrible reaction to colour one time and she had been colouring for many many years. She let herself grow grey naturally and looks great!!. I worry too that once I colour, I will be forced to colour all the time. I dunno, being grey is not that bad LOL LOL. I'm just not very brave hehe.

Suddenly I have become allergic to the dyes and my skin/scalp gets red and blistered:madface:. So I have to stop with the chemicals on my hair. Now the problem is how do I "go gray gracefully" ? I do not want to look like a skunk with the white roots and the rest brown.... I am stressing over this, yet I am resolving to just go natural and stop being a slave to the bottle !
Any help would be appreciated. Oh... I am 50 ish.
