On Monday I finally left my LTC job as a charge nurse. I had it with the poor staffing, poor nurse to patient ratios, etc.

Today, I had an interview for a LPN opening at our local non profit Dialysis Clinic, and it went wonderful! I really enjoyed this interview! I would be working 10 hour days, 4 days a week, have great benefits, plus have 6 months of training. When I'm ready to do the floor on my own, I would have 4 patients. 4 patients! At the LTC I had 48 patients to pass meds to, do treatments, charting, doctors orders, etc.

I know some people think dialysis is boring, but I would love to be able to slow down some. Yet, I really don't see this job as one that would be boring at all. I have had an interest in Dialysis for some time, so this would be a dream come true for me! Also to be able to learn something new and a speciality, at 56 years old/young. I would love that! :redbeathe

Anyway, I should hear from them sometime next week. I really hope it will be a positive phone call!

Do not worry dialysis is not boring. 4 to 1 sounds great but it is not as easy as it sounds, poor staffing get ready, bad co-workers you bet. If you like to do the same thing day in and day out get ready. If you like reverse deligation get ready. I must sound horrible. I am a lvn I use to be a tech and I am currently in rn school. You use to be in charge LVN have no place in dialysis RN are in charge techs run the floor and we are some were in the middle get ready for a roller coaster ride. I've been for 3 year and I am ready to go. It pays well and you only work 4 days but after the headache you need the ddays off. Dialysis is very fast pace I mean very

I didn't take the job, at the Dialysis clinic. I had an interview the next day with a company that has MR/DD homes and was offered the job. I said Yes! This job will be much more laid back than the LTC job I had and the dialysis clinic. Also, I know several people who work there.

Um a dialysis clinic is ANYTHING but laid back. You'd have to actually have the job to know that.

Glad you found something you will enjoy. :) Wish you the best.

good luck to you! I hope you enjoy it! Remember, it takes a long time to get used to the fast-paced dialysis environment. (slow and boring? ha!) stringing machines takes a long time to get, but once you get it, it's there for life. You can do it!

I have read several times on these boards where people have said that dialysis nursing is "laid-back, easy, boring."

Of course, all these posts are from people who have never done dialysis!

Dialysis is very fast-paced, very technical, and plain old hard work.

Good luck in your new MDS job.
