I went in for my interview at 10 am and met with the NM and clinical coordinator. We talked about my intentions and why the NICU, talked about school and they told me a little more about the unit. I had been talking with so many nurses from there already and also had a half hour phone interview a few days back so I didn't have many questions. We took a little tour and then the NM told me she wanted me to meet with two of the nurses who would precept me if I were to be hired and she had me reiterate my reason for wanting to be a NICU nurse and about the challenges I faced getting here. We talked for about 15 minutes and then the NM wanted me to go for an interview with human resources so I headed there and that interview lasted about 15 minutes too. Overall I think it went very well. I was not expecting to be interviewed by so many people but it was very comfortable and I didn't really feel intimidated at all. I know that if I were to start there I would be well-supported. I was told that they haven't had a brand new grad start there in over a year and that made me a little nervous, but the nurse preceptors were both incredibly supportive and made me feel like it's not an out-of-reach goal. My heart melted during the tour. Some babies were extremely sick and others were well on their way home. It was truly such a balance. I want to work there so badly! I won't here back for a week so keep your fingers crossed for me.
