H1C visa St. Bernard Hospital Chicago,IL

I've been browsing lots of topics hoping there I would find answer on what I wanna know but I decided to create one. St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago,IL is one of the very few hospitals in US that is allowed to petition/sponsor nurses with H1C Visa.To be specific what I really wanna know if they petition Filipino nurses. If, yes does any body know what is the process on that specific hospital,because I've read so much about it that I want it to be specific on St. Bernard Hospital. Hope those who have experience or knew someone who had could enlighten me. I know the disadvantages of this H1C that's why I'm still doing further "investigation" about it. Please also include your experience in the hospital if possible.:typing

I am not aware of them offering the H1-C visa at this time. And for any facilities that would be in the US and in a big town like that, it means that they cannot staff with enough American's because of the location and crime rate. You need to seriously take that into consideration as well as the fact that the H1-C visas are set to expire in 2010 and we do not expect them to be renewed.

They have never been on the list of the 15 that I am aware of, I would check your sources again.

It is up to you if you want to go via H1C. I think you already did a research on the hospital and the area where it is located. It is entirely up to you. It is your decision on what to do. The risk is for you to take.

We are all grown-ups here. If after doing your individual research and you still think it's worth it - it is absolutely entirely up to you.

As long as it was an informed decision on your part then it means you will not be blaming anyone for anything if things did not go as well as first thought. Also, for those who might think that it's worth it, pls. do not think that once's tolerance level is the same as yours. Some people tend to exaggerate that things aren't that bad and in effect making a decision for others. If you go through any of these hospitals and if someone asks the conditions, pls. say things as it really is and let them decide for themselves.

This hospital does hire very few nurses on H1C visa. I have a friend who is working there under H1C visa. But as you have mentioned, the location is not great, specially for a foreigner who is not familiar with the area and doesn't know much about how and when to seek help.

that's true!there are really people who does that...which isn't good for other nurses who plan to work in a specific area. but i still give consideration to those who had bad experiences,maybe exaggerating is their way of letting out bad memories?!?!?

i'm still open to hear other peoples experiences (exaggerated bad and good),though. it's just having an idea what to expect (at least set a level) in an area or work place. in every situation we are going to swim,it's better to expect the "worst." to better prepare your self physically, mentally,spiritually and emotionally. in that case everything will be easy for you!:wink2:

Sorry, but I do not agree with you at all. And with the added fact that the H1-C is due to expire in 2010, and we do not expect it to be renewed.

As we have mentioned, none of us that are here on a daily basis would ever recommend this visa to anyone. It is your choice as to what to do, but we can tell you that Chicago has a very high crime rate right now and for someone that is not familiar with the area and foreign on top of it, why take a larger chance at becoming a statistic?

The only time that a facility can get the H1-C is that Americans do not want to work there to fill their open positions, so it means that they are short-staffed as well. And there is still a total of only 500 H1-C visas for the entire US as well.

Just do not like it, never have and never will. It is not safe for the major reason and then other staffing issues. And safety must always be your primary concern, before anything else.

ot: i can't believe beverly hospital is on the list too. could it be because of safety or staffing issues? well, just out of curiousity. since i have been frequenting that area a lot lately.

The only way that a facility can get that visa use is if they are unable to attract enough American nurses and there it becomes a safety issue. If they cannot get nurses and they are in CA, then there are many other issues with that facility.

But remember, they still do not have unlimited visas available and the h1-C is set to expire in 2010. And if the facility is in CA, then they are not unionized and there are again more issues with that as well. Unions in CA do not permit any temporary visas like this.

OT: I can't believe Beverly Hospital is on the list too. Could it be because of safety or staffing issues? Well, just out of curiousity. Since I have been frequenting that area A LOT lately.

Although Beverly Hospital is on the list, they don't sponsor nurses for H-1C.

H-1C program expires on Dec. 21, 2009.
